Boring Glue Question

Hey, Gang -

I tore some foam out of a TE helmet over here. It was getting gross. But - what can I use to clean off the glue residue (I think its 3M glue, could be Barge cement) without damaging or eating through the styrene?

Been too long since I've tried it!!!

And thanks in advance.

:)

Acetone will damage the styrene. Denatured alcohol will not though it doesn't work great to disolve adhesives (but it will if you work on it gently and patiently). Goo Gone should work quite well, test it first to make sure it doesn't damage the styrene.

Acetone is always good glue remover I have found.

Yep.. Goo Gone or any orange oil cleaner like that..it dissolves the adhesive, then wipe off with a clean cloth/paper towel..

(Not to be confused with "Goof Off" which is a strong solvent cleaner that cleans well, but can damage plastics if left on too long or can melt plastic surfaces.

Yep, Goo Gone is what you want to use. I've used it on a bunch of styrene and ABS helmets/armor without any damage at all... good stuff! :thumbsup
