The rosary with the black beads is the "Il Duce" version. Not sure why as his had brown beads in the film as well.
Boondock saints Props. Any Ideas?

thats weird, my brother and I just got the rosary's about a week or so ago (cheaper if you buy 2) and we both got the brown beads

So if one was trying to make this themselves, would the measurements given in the store be right?
Also how long is the chain? Does a Rosary have a set number of beads? I know people count the beads in prayer but I don't know much about Catholicism...I've never seen a real Rosary so I don;t know these details.

I put this replica together for my stepson. Close, but still far from accurate.
But he loves the movie and wanted one.
One thing I noticed....and forgive me, I'm not Catholic. I went to a website on making a rosary for references and noticed that the guide I used states there are 5 sets of 10 beads (brown) "Hail Mary" and one silver "Our Father" just around the Necklace portion. not including the beads that hang straight and attach to the Crucifix.
However on the screen cap and blue ray I count 5 brown to one silver.
My question is are there different guidelines to a rosary bead placement, such as the different orders have different rosaries?
Or was there artistic license taken with the brothers rosaries to make them longer and more "dramatic"?

The ring I used is 4cm across on the outside edge and 3.1cm on the inside.
curtain rod ring at Lowes (8 for $5). They are round so I used my dremel to flatten them out. Used small Oak board for the cross (Lowes $4)
The rest you can get at Walmart craft section.
Looking at the screen grabs on page 1 and comparing to "Irish Rosaries" it looks as if the ones shown use a small silver link chain between the beads instead of leather cord. This would lengthen the rosary appropriately as seen in the movie.

I have to say, I would like to see the custom 9mms that they use. I believe they also used Desert Eagles in .50 AE at some point in the film. And they aren't silencers, IIRC. They're a sort of muzzle brake for pistols, but I can't remember the name right now. A Disperser perhaps?
I used the same overall measurements for the cross (height/width) for mine, as it looked just about spot on.
As for the length of the chain, I forgot to post that stuff. :$ I actually didn't try to measure length. What I DID do, was to work out the bead pattern (through more frame-by-frame observation than I care to admit), which ends up being like so:
You'll have to kind of guesstimate the diameter of the beads; I haven't gotten to the building of the necklace yet. Hope this is helpful. :cool
EDIT: MOST rosaries seem to utilize a "center-piece" where the 'Y' of the necklace comes together. I couldn't find any evidence of one on the screen rosaries, although they may have had one. *shrugs*

Beretta 92 with a custom surppressor.
.357 Magnum Desert Eagles with custom made compensators. You can tell that they're .357's because they have a groove running down the side of the barrel that is absent on the .50AE model. You also can get a round count of 9 from the scene in the elevator before they take out the mob boss. The only DE with a round count that high, is the .357.

GREAT drawing there! Thanks so much for that one! I think you helped save us all alot of time.
I did some reading last night and from what I got, there should be 5 sets of ten beads (which you have) seperated by a single bead (usually a silver bead, but the Boondock Rosarys seem to use wood for the single beads as well)
The center piece you mention, from what I read is an image of either Mary, or the Saint of your choice, but I didn't see any on the Boondock versions while I quickly scanned the movie last night..
Where did you hear that these were the ones used in the movie? Just curious

Troy Duffy (The Director) auctioned off his signed coat that he wore during production and stated it was the same coat worn by the brothers in the film. He showed the pics of the autographed tag and that was the company who made it.
On the chain of the Rosary, are those silver chain links or are they silver beads?:confused

I thought they were beads but now that you mention it, it appears you can see through a silver link in the close up shot.. Well, that makes it a little more difficult...
Are you saying that you think the rosaries in the first film look to be made from wooden beads & chain?
Hmmm. You've been prop-making way longer than I have, but as much as I look at it, I see wooden beads & clear beads.
If you look at the shadow being cast on SPF's skin (in the yellow square below), it looks to me, like the ambient light is actually passing through clear beads, & leaving a circular shadow.
Again, FOR ME, the chances that every link (if it is chain) being turned at precisely the right angle, as to cast perfectly round shadows on his skin, would be nearly impossible. *shrugs*

It's possible it could be clear beads, but also possible for chain to cast a similar shadow. There are chains that have twisted links where all the links lay flat and would cast that same type of shadow.
Plus, it's just more masculine for them to have chain links than clear or silver beads on a rosary for a couple of gun wielding vigilanties.:thumbsup

Well damn. that just made it alot more difficult.. I'll never find a local source for that kinda chain in this "city"
