Boba Fett helmet build, ongoing project.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

To enlarge it just make a out line on the outside of the dent to the size you want it and cut it out I don't know if yours is solid underneath or what material you used but if you enlarge it you may have to resculpt the dent just guessing here.

its all body filler and resin/fibreglass underneath so cutting into it isn't really an option, its too soild.

side note
i've been looking into moulding and casting this helmet, so are there any people out there interested purchasing a cast, it would include the helmet along with the ear caps, it would not include range finder, stalk, visor or MQ-1 circuit board. if you were interest what kind of price would you pay, PM me if you're interested.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

I don't see to many ways around it, if it was like when I made mine to wide all I had to do is fill it to make the area smaller, unless you dremel it around the perimeter I don't see to many ways to widen it being that it's a solid material 2 options I see is you leave it as is or you have to do surgery Lol.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

funny you should use that word, Im doing surgery right now, pictures later.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Ooh, a cast! Yes, I would probably take one. As For price? Hmmmm..........It depends how expensive the materials are where you can get them, ross.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

as this is a custom build and not 100% accurate i am unsure what price tag i would put on them, what would you feel comfortable parting with or what do you think its honestly worth?

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

It's really hard to know man, since YOU are the one that put so much effort and time into it.

I do believe it truly is a very nice sculpt. I really don't know. But I am interested. Below 300, that's all I know.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

This is new to me having to price something ive made. I think i should be able to that though crank. Ill have a better idea of prices in next week or so.

Really good to see your interest though crank, thanks

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Hi Rosskow, First I would like to say that your helmet looks AWESOME! I found your thread while looking for some info on building a Boba helmet from pepakura and when I started reading I could not stop! I have had questions about sculpting and casting and your thread has all of this. Great step by step. This will be the thread I reference for sure! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. I would probably be interested in a cast at the right price but living in the US I'm not sure about shipping cost. Once again, Nice Job!

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

so uhhh you mind stop working on the helmet so I can catch back up to ya haha.

Looking good man looking real good.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Wow. I just recently found RPF and have been researching helmet builds like crazy to prep for my first build. (Although I'm likely to hold off a helmet build until I knock out building aqualads backpack) I could not stop reading this thread. Thank you so much for putting in so much time and effort into this. It's really taught me a lot and I feel like I'm growing to understand so much before I've even bought my first set of materials.

Quick question, Just how heavy is the helmet? And how durable would you say it is? The only thing I've had experience with is cheap clay from Michaels where it'll break at the drop of a hat.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Quick one, any one thats at all interested price would be about £100-120 plus p&p which would be about £15 for uk mainland and £35 for the people over the water in usa and canada. These are rough numbers right now though but what are your thoughts on?

like i said above, im happy i can help others and provide them with information through my (many many) mistakes.
the helmet isn't very heavy, maybe weight of a bag of sugar (1kg) and its tough as a nut with the fibreglass resin, but i wouldn't want to test that by dropping it, happy to keep it firmly in my hands.

DENT UPDATE

i think i have improved the dent, but not before gutting into it

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Looks good! I have to add the dent to my Boba cast soon, kind of dreading it, not gonna lie.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Don't worry to much because you can alwaya just full in any hole you make and smooth it over to start again, but I was nervous myself drilling into my helmet with a 20mm drill bit tearing into it. Scary moment.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

Started to fix the minor bits now, primed rear vent so sand that tomorrow and should be able to fix in place, corrected visor width, need sand that smooth tomorrow as well the dent is done now, getting very close to completed.
Still looking for more interest though in anyone wanting a cast, would love to have this moulded...

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

hows this vent looks?

edit: i know it looks slight wonky, its not fixed in place yet so nevermind that.

Re: Boba fett helmet pep build (my first build) WIP still...

This is a great thread and an incredible build. I started using resin to cast and I found a great technique when pouring - once you pour the resin into the silicone negative allow it to overflow just slightly and then place a small piece of glass on top before it sets. Any surplus resin will pour out. Once the resin is dried take the piece of glass off. This will make the top section of whatever you mould as smooth as.... glass.
