This is not my helmet, but I am considering buying it. What is your opinion on accuracy vs. price?

This is a Mystery Helmet (which I don't know what that means, can anyone explain) It is $200-$250.

How much is it?
If you want to get some really good info on Boba Fett stuff, check out the forums at The Dented Helmet.
I'd say it's a 'decent' representation of the ESB paintjob, but nothing spectacular.

I'm no expert, but it looks way too weathered around the visor, to me. :unsure

It depends on the real life proportions of that helmet. It looks like a mystery helmet to me. They are worth about $100, and you might pay another hundred for the paint job that is on that helmet. The colors aren't accurate, but it looks like someone did try to spend some time on it. For a really accurate paint job you can spend as much as $400 and that is practically minimum wage for the time spent on such a paint job as the ESB fett. I charged $250 for my paint job and while my colors are needing a bit of tweaking, the details are pretty much there. I could have been more anal, but who has the time?

I have done 3 comissioned fett paint jobs in the past 2 years.
Here is a photo of the last one I worked on. I still dont have all of the colors correct. The mustard color on the rear is too yellow-brown, but all of my reference pictures keep showing that color in a different way depending on flash and color saturation. I need to find a color that more closely matches, but this is the best I could do with what I had. The rear color is a custom mix, but maybe a bit too light or blue. Keep in mind these colors look completely different under flash conditions.

If I were buying a Fett helmet, I would just figure out what kind of accuracy I wanted to pay for. I hear that boba maker has a good helmet, but I have never seen one in person. Didnt MLC also make one? I'm not sure. This one below is an MSH2.

the helmet dosent look right to me sure this isnt a recast of those altman boba helmets i see on ebay all the time?

That's a mystery helmet, not sure who's it's a recast from tho. I've seen them made that way by marrow sun and sgt.fang I wouldn't pay that much for it. The color of the earcaps should be a yellowish/tanish color and it's not even on right . the triangles on the front should be the same green as the rest of the dome. Once you actually start getting the fett stuff you're going to get the accuracy bug. and this helmet just isn't THAT accurate

animetronic - Try using Tamiya "Buff" it's a very pale tan.

Whoever painted it went way too crazy with the paint chipping and didn't layer the colors well. I'd say buy something else and start from scratch. Also, if you're planning on doing the costume that's an ESB paintjob. Not that the general public would notice if you wore it on a RotJ suit but it's something to consider.

Hang on I'll call my buddy sherlock for a good answer :lol

"Mystery" helmets were called mystery helmets because at the time it was unknown where the origins came from. it's now believed that they originated from a pull of the pre production 2 helmet.

Sgt Fang and Marrow Sun makes mystery helmets. but for an esb fett I prefer the Terminal Fettler helmets

Not a bad helmet but not really good. For some dollars more you could get a helmet kit from bobamaker. Thats one of the nicest helmets available.
