Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

Thanks for the kind words :)

Well, that is an ingenious way to fix that problem! It's essentially a condom for Bob's tongue. I think the edges of the rubber against the teeth will really give it a realistic look.

You got it, although the rubber would be thicker :)

Provided it isn't something that won't break down over time.

I'm thinking instead of using pins to hinge the wee jaws, I could just cast them with dimples & have them clip together, then slip the rubber cover over. They'll hinge just as well but its a simpler design & they're not going to be under any serious strain anyway I would like to think :confused
Having a rubber cover or skin over the tongue also means that theres scope for it to be animated, cables can be hidden under the skin.

The tongues being made to slide in & out on a rod, the rod hinges at its mount & the whole bottom jaw will be on hinges. So it shouldn't be too difficult to animate the face.

I've just got to look into a good suitable rubber to use.

Time for another little update:
Firstly, we discussed it & decided to move Bob to one of the spare rooms as he was beginning to completely take over the dinning room. Its a bit crowded in there with the toys & what not but its kind of like being a kid again with my own bedroom :D

I've been busy trying to wrap things up a little. His tongue is ready for moulding, I just need to put some clay over the hinges but I'll do that just before the moulding starts. I made a new hinge for the tongue & re-sculpted it a bit.
The jaw is also ready for moulding. I've gone over the whole thing & made sure I'm happy with it all then textured it. I used Humbrol enamel paint with some talc mixed in & stippled it on with a torn up sponge & then top coated it with a spatter tip in my Aztek & used a gloss enamal paint for the finish. Its blended everything together nicely & the texture isn't too heavy :)

Next job is to get the rest of the head ready for moulding. I'm going to make a temporary mould of the face/skull part & remake that in polyester filler. I'll use latex for the mould & plaster for the jacket. Then I'll cut the old one off & replace it with the new plastic one & blend it in. Reason for this is there will be a separation line in the mould right across his face just above his eyes. I want a hard surface to run the separation lines across so as not to leave lines or deformation in the final casting :)

I've seen some excellent Alien heads. And this is one!

Have you seen a chap on the Aliens Legacy Board called Phillip?

He's done an excellent bust.

Keep up the great work!

I have indeed :) its a thing of beauty for sure, different Alien though :)

I've been watching you work on this alien bust from the start and i've got to say that this is probably... no, is the best alien bust i've seen. Stunning work! I Really look forward to seeing each new post! The only problem i have with it is can i afford to buy one!! :lol

^^

I know how you feel! I'm hoping I'll have had some time in my new job by the time this beast is ready, assuming of course that it's going up for sale! If not, I've come to an arrangement with Leigh, one bust in return for me being his housekeeper for a year, though he doesn't know it yet XD

Can't wait to see more updates :D

Hmm.......This is a tempting offer :love :D

Just a little update:
I was going to make a latex mould to remake face/skull part & cast it in polyester.....well that went out the window! as usual I've gone & done it different to my original plan :lol

So I made a plaster one off mould & cast it in urethane :rolleyes But I'm happy with the results :)

Ditto on all the above, especially that I definitely won't be able to afford it :lol

But just seeing it coming to life in this thread is worth it :)

Thanks Alan :)

Excellent improvement, but please don't post any more images from the mod process, I always panic when I see Bob in bits XD

Thanks guy's :)

Well the face is all glued on & blended in, I've just got to do some slight texturing & thats all sorted :) the next bit will be the large area's either side of the top of his head.
