Blue Thunder 1/6 RC miniature

Long story on this piece but what matters is after a 2 year wait and the help of a few friends and patience it landed into my collection. This is one of the 1/6 scale Blue Thunder models that was used in a few select scenes (the loop and fly aways) in Blue Thunder. The 'tell' if it's a model on screen is looking for the stabilizer paddles in the rotors. It has the original radios and electronics.

WOW! Nice score! :eek

Is this going to be a display piece only... or will you risk taking her out for a test flight? :love

And is there a little Roy Scheider in the cockpit? With the glare off the windshield I can't tell for sure.

Congratulations!! :love

That is awesome. I always loved that movie. I wouldn't fly it with 80's radio tech. I would drop in some nice new equipment and new motor. By the way, what type of motor does it have?

Man I would love to see it fly again but it would need an electronics overhaul. Thanks so much for the positive and the shop was slightly clean that day. I'm relocating to a new house so it should be even more man cave-ish with the Directv installed LOL. The 2 1/6 helis they flew had Ken dolls (Barbie's boyfriend) in them and the twin brother to this model at Sony still has it's doll and I was looking at the auction catalogue for this piece and it appears my Ken may have made a break for it, since he seems to be sitting in the cockpit but is now AWOL.

Now's your chance to get that Ken replaced with a more accurate pilot!

I wonder if there's a Roy Scheider 1/6th headsculpt out there?

Very cool! Glad to see its in good hands. Loved that movie, and loved at least the helicopter portions of the tv series, the rest of the show was...........anyway Dana Carvey says the only time he's been fired was from the Blue Thunder TV series...LOL.
Any ideas on how you intend to display it?

That is so cool. One of my favorite 80's action films.

Too bad I am JAFO and don't own that bird.

Catch ya later :thumbsup

I have few ideas on displaying it. We are in the middle of a moving so I have a new office and all. Kind of funny but there really is no other place to display except the man cave! I would consider hanging from ceiling but I may elect to avoid the risk.

Very nice acquisition! Always loved that movie and the heli. I wonder if this pic I snapped back in the 80s at the Toledo R/C Expo was the same model.

The one on display at that show might not have been a screen used piece. American R/C Helicopters was planning on marketing the fuselages, but I think the plane crash/fire that destroyed the factory ended that. I talked for quite a while to the guy that flew it in the movie, John Simone Jr., (his dad owned American R/C, IIRC) but I can't remember any details about it now.

Here it is being flown by John Simone Jr.

Good info on that Toledo expo.super cool pic. I would love to have a copy that wasn't sized down to fit in here. I was contacted by an RC helicopter BT builder and he knew alot about John and him wanting to produce fuselages. That one in the photo appears to be authentic and possibly used for the film. . The reason I say that is there are a few things about it that indicate it wasn't a repro and one or two things are the same as mine. I obtained more auction info on my piece and it was confirmed that it came from Simone and no one had heard from him years. It's like he walked off the earth. I also know that people tried to get some of these to fly and with the tech at the time it was very difficult.

Thanks for the custom head link too.

Beautiful. :love
My holy grail (apart from the Casio AA-85 watch used in the picture which I've had no luck finding after years of searching)

Could you scan the catalogue auction page for it?
And anybody with a real passion for this picture should try here -

Its a great site.
And those wanting a smaller replica should check out Organic Toys brand new die-cast -
