Blakes 7 Zen

I'm currently working on a full size replica of Slave, the ship's computer from the 4th season of Blake's 7. In the meantime, I've just completed this A4 sized replica of Zen, the computer from the first 3 seasons. I won't be making a full sized one because my ceilings are not high enough!

That's amazing, how did you do the dome section?

Thanks. The dome was made from an offcut from a much larger acrylic dome (which has become part of the Slave that I'm making!). The inside was painted first with clear yellow, then I applied a light brown acrylic which I dabbed all over with kitchen roll. When that was dry I did it again with a darker brown.

Oh, and inside it were flashing leds in little plasticard frames!

Really nice work. It looks spot on. The painting on the inside of the dome is really effective.

Only thing I'd suggest is to knock down the glossiness.

Thanks. The glossiness is worsened by shooting it in my conservatory, that wouldn't show in a tv studio with a dark roof and controlled lighting.

Wow. I found this page when I was doing some research for an altogether much more modest project - to build a Zen mini display with an LCD display panel; this is utterly awesome! Just wondered - did you map out which lights do and don't change on the panel? Been looking at studying screen grabs to see which blocks change and what colour(s)!

Thanks. I just used all flashing lights, I didn't have any constantly on. I had 14 available, so that's what I used. They were all white, the colour comes from the dome. It seems to give the right effect.
