I think what is really interesting about this auction is the way the owner rather obviously bid up other players before retracting all the bids. At one point it was around 13k.

As for claims that its original best ask Matt Irvine about that.

Does anyone know if this piece is the real deal? I know pitifully little about the actual miniature, but would appreciate any additional info you may have.

Oh well I'll rattle it off again.

supposedly it's all fake apart from the nose cones made by Martin b.

The he original was tsken by Matt Irvine and of course he worked at the beeb then so should have it. Martin was freelance by then I understand.

so it's dirty and mouldy and blown up so Matt schleps out around conventions and stuff ad people ohh and arghh.

the martin announced he has one for sale and it's made of bits of the oruginsl. Matt says no I have it.

matt continues to show off obviously blown up origjnal 1 only of it pieces.

So someone's lieing...and since Matt was on blue peter and swop shop and couldnt possibly lie (probably) I believe him.

my opinion but the simplest story is always the answer. The one in ebay might have a few original bits... But like much of the stuff At the beeb in the end was taken by employees and sold years later.

As far as I'm concerned Mat Irvine has the original Space Models Liberator - I worked on the model while at Space Models in 1977!
