Blades Cobray gun - help needed...

I intend to buy an airsoft Mac Cobray and convert it into a working prop -
does anyone have accurate dims from the prop?

Right at the moment I'm using Sketchup to gauge what looks correct;

Obviously this is way off - anyone here with a prop copy?

Contact Spat. He has (or at least used to) have the best pieces around. He is a trusted member, has some of the best prop replicas around, and his customer service is top notch.

Good luck with your project. I'm a Blade Fan myself:lol

Cheers mate,

Do you know if the kits he sells are accurate to the original prop?

There is a member on this forum who owns most of the original props - search around and you'll find his beautiful web page.

Just FYI - I have found, and you can't blame them, that most people who own the REAL props are hesitant to help people recreate them. I owned the Blade 1 vest for a while, and it seemed like EVERYONE asked me for the measurements all the time. In fact, it got a bit old after a while.

There are some great screen grabs of Blade with the weapon, and while Spat's might not be EXACT, it is spot on and really a nice piece.

Personally, as a Blade Fanatic myself, I would save yourself time, money, frustration, and agony (LOL) and get yourself a Spatcave Blade gun.

Otherwise, PM me and I will check through my other hard drives to see if I have any photos that will help. But you'll find that Spats is really beautiful.

Wow, I sound like a Spat Cheerleader. Maybe I get a 1% discount if he reads this! :lol:lol:lol

Does anyone here know something about the firing hero prop?
I'm still wondering why they made the front section movable (watch the scene in the park closely and you'll notice that the front moves forward when firing).

Cheers,
Stefan

I scratchbuilt my own on a working gas blowback airsoft using a ton of screencaps as reference. I think youre off to a good start, but you need to make the main addon piece a lot wider. If you look at screencaps you can see that it is much thicker than the mac11 itself.

Also when building mine I cannibalized the supressor that came with the gun for parts, which made building a lot easier.

I never got around to completely finishing it, but I think it looks pretty good, and the airsoft still functions, which was my goal.

That looks really awesome. IMO it would look great with a weathered paint job like in the film, but i've never seen anyone paint thiers after finishing it.

Yeah, that was what i was referring to as not being finished. Although after knocking around for a few years now its gotten its own share of dents and dings. :)

I also need to pick up a short magazine for it, although both the short and long ones were used in the film.

The original working gun prop was constructed by a propmaker named Scott MacKay who worked for Studio Art and Technology in Sun Valley, CA (He's no longer there). SAT also made many of the other props including the large stakes and Blade's leg stake holster. I got this information from Assistant Property Master on the flim, Al Eisenmann, and I purchased his last screen used leg holster/stakes, large stakes, EDTA arm holster (it still had two EDTA darts in it). Scott also made the the functional sword for the first movie. Tony Swatton from Sword and the Stone made the sword for the second movie.

Here's a fun fact: The large stakes are the ones you see in Snipes' hands (or when the bad guy was ramming one into his shoulder). However, they were too long and heavy to have strapped to his leg, so the prop master made shorter versions for the leg holster (two of them were locked in with an allen screw through the webbing into the stake...the last was left lose so it could be pulled from the holster easily). So, the camera cuts from the smaller version on his leg to the larger version in his hand in the film.

I have one of the cobray replicas that was done by Monsters in Motion a few years ago. I keep it in the same box Blade keeps his in in the second movie. It was a cigar humidor purchased in Chechoslovakia (SP?) during filiming and had parts added to it. It's pretty cool since it was the only one made for the movie.

I had thought about buying a Mac with the suppressor for the same reason!
I can certainly understand folks being cagey about actual dims but I'm
hoping - I know there were stunt gun copies floating about a one point.

I wanted to make one of these years ago but at the time all the airsoft Mac's were prohibitively expensive and difficult to get in Ireland, now the law has changed here so airsoft is legal.
There are a couple of different Macs available including an all metal version which I'd love to use but it has to be ABS for reasons of filling, etc.

Cheers
