Rick Ross just recently finished his masterpiece, a Chess table and set inspired by Sebastian's set and his apartment at the Bradbury.

Re: Chess Master

I will need to increase my vocabulary a bit before I can adequately decribe the awe that I am feeling right now. That is one increadible piece!

Re: Chess Master

I'm with you. The chess pieces themselves are incredible works of art, worthy of inclusion for any fan of BLADE RUNNER, but the table?

That is hands down the most spectacular display I've ever seen for a prop. To say "well done" would be an insult.

Rick Ross is part of a very small group of artists who's impact on this hobby could never be fully measured or over valued. He's incredibly talented, yet remains truly humble in the wake of his own accomplishments.

He continues to inspire me to be as good as I can be, as both an artist and a person.

Well said Shawn. Could not agree more.

He has also updated his site with more stuff and pictures of his prop work.

Re: Chess Master

Oh my God :eek:eek:eek I have NEVER wanted a chess set as badly as I want this one, and I own an obscene amount of sets. I would give every one of them up to own one like this.

Re: Chess Master

Fantastic !! Rick is such a tallented guy. I like how the little pillars are the same as those outside the Bradbury. Awesome.

Re: Chess Master

Though I think it is an overused term, I think this set could easily be called "Steampunk". especially since the Bradbury building is almost the epitome of Steam Punk itself. Of course the columns aren't really on the Bradbury though.

Re: Chess Master

That's awesome!!! I've always wanted to make my own chess set, and this is definitely an extreme amount of inspiration! Well done, Rick!:cool:thumbsup

Re: Chess Master

Thank you all for your kind words. It really means a lot to me. I have been obsessed with this project for the past two years. I have always wanted Sebastian's Chess Set. When I started searching for this set two years ago, I kept running into strange reactions to my inquiries about the "Bird Chess Set" from Blade Runner. I was either directed to an inaccurate set, or told, "Sorry. Can't help ya, pal." It was the same story everywhere I went, with nearly the exact same rehearsed speech. It was as if I were asking about the "Book of the Nine Gates". I started to wonder if the original set had been made for Lucifer, himself. No one was talking at the time. Anyway, rather than just let it go, I decided to make my own set. As always, my references were poor, so I had to go my own way with a lot of the details. But, I feel that I was able to capture the essence of the film used set. I'm so happy now that I ran into those obstacles. In the end, they sent me in a much more creative direction.

As far as the table is concerned, I only intended to make a simple light box in the beginning, with a checkered overlay. The next thing I knew, however, it had evolved into a major design project, as well as, a character study of J.F. Sebastian.

Thank you, again.

Sincerely,
Rick

Re: Chess Master

From looking at close up HD shots it looked like they just laid out cut paper squares for the grid on a standard light table for the chess board. I like your interpretation much better. :D

I know a few products that can reverse that rust! Ask Rick if he wants me to clean it up for him :lol

That's just mind blowing! :thumbsup

I seem to have stumbled on this late and quite honestly Rick, I'm blown away…

Once again you take something with a lot of general appeal and with deft ease you casually elevate it into the category of true "art". As you have done with your blasters you don't just replicate what is there, you create new out of the old with a talent that the rest of us can only but envy and admire…

For me what sets you apart is that, long after the thrill of the initial viewing fades, I still find myself sneaking back to look - again, again and again..

Warmest congratulations mate and many thanks for sharing..

Regards

MARK

:eekI was not expecting such a staggering, overwhelming display of artistry when I clicked on this.
