hi guys this is my first prop from start to finish. I watched a youtube vid of bill doran (punished props) making his version of a blade runner blaster and wanted one so i brought his 3d print files and got going like i said im new to this so im looking for feed back and criticism good and bad any techniques you guys know and use so here goes .....
.
655395-2ca915f65b38749f6653e1d0c582199b.jpg

so i have a creality cr10 and i printed all the parts off now its time for the sanding :( a lot of sanding every thing got rubbed down with 120 grit sand paper followed by 180 grit and finally 320 ready for priming i gave every thing a coat of adhesion promoter and 2 light coats of an automotive 2k filler primer
655415-524b745f05e6e3e82b337733e3b3312f.jpg

after every thing had been primed it got wet sanded with 800 wet n dry and painted gloss black or matt black ready for the netxt step
655435-616583324d372232dee246b92a485352.jpg

witch was to paint the gloss black parts in alclad 2 stainless steel
l
655438-9cce28b0fadefcc59fdfd85105fdf125.jpg

now for the grips i made a silicone mold of the 3d printed grips and cast them out of plane old polyester resin
so here is the problem i run in to polyester resin shrinks when cured buy about 5-7% it turns out. So i re printed re sanded re primed and re carst a 2nd set 8% bigger to allow for shrinkage
655440-7eabd349ef12df6aa8149d0cf88e7de8.jpg

if u look close you can see the ones in the middle are a bit larger than the ones on the out side buy about 7%:) they got a good sanding with 320 and wet 800 and i give them 2 coats of 2k clear lacquer

all the sanding and painting done time to move on to put it together punished props has a wicked youtube video on this.

This looks great, I am actually just starting the work on this blaster and have plans to do the same thing with the grips.

I have never made a mold but have been looking at smooth on rebound 25 but perhaps a different product would work. Do you have any recommendations?

As a side note I had planned to use Art Resin, which apparently doesn’t shrink so I thought I would mention that.

Did you find Bill’a files easy to work with? I was going to use Andrew Forester’s files as a base and then try to modify a few files that I didn’t think looked quite right.

Hi i had never made a silicon mold befor eather i did try art resin first but air bubbles was a bit of a pain. And I used silicone from mbfiberglass uk the product code is GP3481 its an rtv silicone and easy to use
Bills 3d print files are spot on i can folt them and it is not to much bother to get all the parts working

Thanks ram
