This is a side personal project I worked on during the last year of production on Black Ops III ( I am an artist at Treyarch) . I created the original high resolution model as well as the game geo and texturing work for the in-game asset. Being familiar with it, I decided it was a good candidate for 3d printing. In the end it turned into a big learning effort: it was my first attempt at prop painting as well as some simple electronics (LED lighting).
Except for some small cable details, the helmet is entirely printed on my large format custom built coreXY printer in PLA and ABS. Then a bunch of hand-finishing work.
The helmet is approx. 85-90% life scale. I was able to leverage the original high rez texture graphics to get a set of custom water transfer decals printed.
These are some raw images of my final helmet from our informal photo shoot in the Treyarch media room. My coworker Pete Zoppi was the photographer on the better photos
.
Also added an image dump of work-in-progress images showing some of the process
Original concept by my coworker Maya Escalante
