BioShock 2 - Subject Delta - WIP

Hello there.

I'm building a Darth Vader costume from Star Wars Episode III that I will wear over a muscle suit like the actor did underneath the screen used costume and thought this muscle suit would also look great underneath a Subject Delta costume from BioShock 2 since he is also a large guy.

I am 6'3" without costume, so this costume might look a bit more slender on me than it does in most of the photos, but at the end of the video game when he is shown dying on the surface, he looks more regularly proportinate.

So far I've found some really good fabric for this costume with the same texture and color.
It will look a bit darker after weathering, and I will bleach this same fabric for the lighter colored gloves and left forearm. It looks kinda happy too...

I also received a package today containing a genuine diving dagger of the same type Subject Delta has, and damn it is really huge:thumbsup I think I will reshape the handle a bit in a lathe and lacquer it darker to make it more screen accurate.

The package also contained 18 genuine diving helmet wingnuts of the same kind seen on Subject Delta's helmet. Unfortunately the washers and sink weight mounts they sent me were the wrong ones, so I'll have to ask for a replacement soon if possible.

Also for the tanks containing glowing genetic goo called ADAM and EVE, I will use EL wires to illuminate them and the rubber line running down the arm.

Sorry about not having much to show yet, just excited from the huge knife, I guess:) But I'll try to get some more work done on this costume soon, making it as screen accurate as I can.

This is already looking great! I have no doubt that you will make this suit look great! :D

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

Thanks, guys, but honestly I wouldn't call getting some stuff in the mail good work :lol
I'll be changing location tomorrow, so will get a larger space and more time for working on this costume.

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

very cool. keep up the great work. cant wait to see this progress

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

Love the wing nuts those things are insanely hard to come by, on my delta costume I had to custom make them. Looks like we have the exact same EL wire too.

The dagger is a truly great find, these things are practically antiques, I think you would be crazy to alter it.

Cant wait to see your completed costume.

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

@simpletom - Yes they are sort of hard to come by, and they were expensive too, but then they are from real diving helmets. I'll have to buy some bolts for them soon.

Sure, that might be that we have the sale EL wire, at least we had the same idea.

I do believe my dagger was only one of those recent reproductions that are not really worth much historically, other than having been made of heavy brass. They probably pissed on it to make it look used, because they are usually shiny.

The older ones had a more accurate handle shape, they probably made Delta's dagger look like those, so I need to reshape this new handle a bit.

Ah ok thats not so bad then, very good replica i did think the handle looked a little new for something thats about 70+ years old.

I'll be making my knife out of pvc pipe and for the handle i'm planning on using a chisel handle from ebay. thats the plan anyway.

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

It's not actually a replica, it is a real knife made by one of the same companies who made them back then (Morse Diving Co.), it is just a newer one, and therefore different since it's made by a different staff than before.

Sure, that could work, it's not that complicately shaped anyway, and one does have measurements from the real thing for ya if you'd like. ;)

EDIT - Added the photo of the fabric in post #1 now.

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

If you can get the handle off to reshape in a lathe, why not just make a new one on the lathe so you still have your original?

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

I would maybe make a new handle for a vintage dagger, but since mine was recently made and not of historical value, that means I would have to keep a non valuable handle lying around for no use what so ever instead of reshaping it.

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

Great finds on the antique brass! How breathable is the material? You going to vent it with mesh in strategic locations?

Re: BioShock 2 - Subject Delta

Thanks, it was expensive too :D The material is so breathable that it is actually sort of seethrough in the light, so I'll have to double layer it, but that would only make it heavily fold like the real thing anyway, and it would still be pretty breathable.

As for the muscle suit, sure that will be hot as hell, but not hotter than hell since the foam I will use for it will be perforated for airflow.
