Bigturc's Tie Bomber thread

I've heard several of you mention on this thread a starter kit sold by a couple of different people. Where would I find one of these starter kits. I'm collecting the model kits at the moment, very expensive, and any help in the beginning would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well .. I'm into detailing the outter wings now .. and after reading it in another build thread, I needed to confirm that the wings used on each side, were actually the same wing from the DV kit.

This means that instead of buying 1 Vader kit, and using the Left wing on the left side and Right wing on the right side, you'll need to buy 2 DV kits and use both Left wings from the kits to create the Bomber Left and Right side wing.

So that means I'm completely off with my model but the heck with it .. I'm not restarting a wing!!!

I'll update the first post to reflect this info and make sure it gets out there!

Here's a simple montage illustrating this fact

Wow .. I didn't know that .... glad I haven't started the wings yet ... might as well get hold of another DV TIE then .... need one more for another project anyways

Well this is what this thread is all about .. spreading the knowledge!!! Hopefully, this information will be out there now and not kept private!

I'm glad I could help! ;)

Stu (Eagle1), is the maker of the starter kit .. last I've heard, he wasn't making them anymore but who knows, maybe he's got some extras in a closet!

Hey guys. I'm starting a build of the TB myself. I'm at the kit collecting stage. I'm having one crazy time finding an original of the Tamiya 1:700 Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano (part number 77024). Anyone know where I could find one? Ebay isn't being kind. LOL

Kevin

Yes .. isn't it a ***** to find!!!

Found mine on Ebay too .. as most of the guys here too. Thing is, spot the auctions which won't necessarily notify you that it's the old one. Mine was just like that .. I had to ask the seller the number on the side of the box and then realized it was an old tooling and got it for around 15$ which is a good price! ;)

Good luck bud!

Update .. styrene plates added, passenger tube cap fixed, wing guts done.
Next step will be to primer this guy while it's still in separate blocks.

If you guys notice any errors I might have made .. or anything, scribing lines, plating or parts missing, feel free to let me know!

Cheers

Guys, I'm not sure why but I think I've seen the lines below scribed around the Harrier parts.

Can anyone confirm that these were actually there or not? From the ref pics I've got, I may see them, but it may as well be my imagination!!!

Turc,

Yep those lines are on the model, although I think the corners were actually smooth rather than sharp.

Edit: Nope looked again. They are sharp corners indeed.

Dude, the Harrier parts came out killer! I also like the inner wing shots. You should finish the model without paint! :D

Turc,

Shoot me your email so I can send you two pics that show the panel lining around the harrier parts.

Joe, thanks my man .. I'm really not 100% satisfied with my wing pillar boxes .. but it'll have to do. I really want to complete this project and I gotta stop being so damn picky!

Marvin, you have a PM!

Great progress Al, very clean, crisp work mate!.
Yeah, those inner wing boxes are a real pain to get right, well, to an acceptable level that your'e happy with!. I seem to remember that the first one I did took about 5 tries to get right, then the other 3 were much easier.
I'm amazed with the 'extra' details you guys are finding, just incredible really!. I never even noticed the scribing around the 'Harrier' parts.
Me thinks yours/others & future builds will be the 'definitive' builds.

The one thing I would do differently now, if I were to ever do another Bomber, would be to use an alloy armature, no cockpit & the 'wires' showing through for a truly screen seen replica.
Who knows, we may be persuaded to do these at some stage!.
