Biggest project to date-WORLD WAR HULK!

So,
been away from here for a while now, what with life getting in the way and all. Recently I got inspired by my local cosplay group, as everyone had seen the Thor:Ragnarok trailer and was starting their Thor, Loki and Hel builds. I decided to do something different, and with some inspiration from Frank Ippolito's Rancor build and the expert assist for the body he got from puppeteer Ben Bayouthe, I have decided to build the World War Hulk! No idea on when I will be done, but gonna start now and see how long it takes. Basically, it will be a 9-10 foot tall walking puppet like the Rancor, with drywall stilts, cable-controlled fingers and a puppet head with moving eyes, brow, mouth and snarling lips. A voice changer and speaker will go in the mouth, and I will solve the problem of having to look out the chest by having a piece of armour there! I have started by using the Hot Toys Hulk figure as my mold for a pattern, as it is a 1/6th scale figure. I will make patterns on him and have Kinko's blow them up so that he will be around 10 feet tall. I started by doing all my preliminary sketches for the work, then covered the figure with latex rubber. Next, came the tape on which I will start drawing out where the foam body pieces will be. Next, cut the out and have them blown up! 18813863_10155814510720616_2336651297014650200_n.jpg18813241_10155814511140616_3050127569974808298_n.jpg18700264_10155814511615616_325646115491226308_n.jpg18814043_10155814512230616_6102507347661752846_n.jpg18881884_10155839062130616_7969821509758903810_n.jpg18881864_10155839365150616_8890175681479366407_n.jpg

Thanks, Ronchan! Next up, I'm mapping out all the pieces. I'll colour some a different colour to show me which pieces will be a lighter foam density, label them, cut them out and send them to Kinko's to get blown up!19029392_10155859828875616_7611878963881965906_n.jpg

Totally subbed to this. Just. Wow.
Uh, right back at you-I really admire your work and used your AOU build for my Cap as well. Thanks for subbing!

Alright, I've highlighted where the joints will be, numbered all the pieces so I can find them, marked how they attach to each other, and indicated which direction they flow. Next, let's get them blown up and order the foam!19030498_10155862432415616_7038259385329809515_n.jpg

dude this is going to be great!im sub'd! and i love how youre using Franks rancor build from tested to make your hulk. its going to be amazing :)
Ben Bayouth did some fantastic work, so it just makes sense to make this as basically a puppet. This is gonna be epic if I can actually do it!

Ambitious ! Looking forward to seeing this develop !
Best of luck,Looch
Thanks George, go big or go home, yah know! I think I have the whole thing figured out, and I'm sure there will be a few hiccups along the way, but I am committed to this build. Basically, I would love to go toe-to-toe with Extreme Coplay's Hulkbuster build!

So, ordered a pattern notcher from Amazon and a new flexible hot wire cutter for doing muscle stria, but FedEx Office was less than useless in helping me blow up my pattern pieces, so I've gone to another company, but if they have to greyscale out the yellow highlighter pen, the four finished sheets will be $51 each! So, gotta re-draw the patterns with no colour so they will be only$10! Dammit, I need the patterns so I know how much foam to order!

Looking forward to your progress.

Why are you worried about greying out the yellow highlighter? Unless they've updated since I've last used them, the large format copier at FedEx/Kinko's is black and white. Your highlighted areas will be printed in gray anyhow,

It's actually not my worry, it's the printing company. FedEx Office had no idea what I wanted, then their machine was broken, so I went somewhere else. Printing in colour was just going to be too expensive and changing to Greyscale was a s well, so just redrawing the already existing pieces. Getting them printed off tmrw, then ordering all the foam I need!

Alright, the patterns are expanded! Here is a sample of them, with a size 11 for scale. I just have to re-add the notches and then cut them out to figure out the least amount of foam to order:)19366250_10155882057930616_5543162992029672926_n.jpg

Your FedEx office sounds like rubbish. IMHO, there was no need for them to print in color or convert the file to greyscale, Glad it worked out for you in the end.

Yeah, me too! So, now I'm cutting them out and planning how to fit them to the size of foam I can get, then getting that ordered tmrw!

Okay, foam has been ordered! I'm using L200 at 3/4" thickness, and the largest sheets they have being 4'x6'=5 sheets! Nothing more to do until it arrives, so I will not have any progress reports for a week or so:)

Just cancelled my foam order-the website said "free shipping over $100"-but FedEx wants to charge me an additional $300-to Hell with that! Gotta find an alternative.
