BEWARE - Looking at Katy Perry can cost you your JOB!

I found it odd they made a big deal out of no carnations. So what? She doesn't like a type of flower for whatever reason. Big whoop.

Now, the REST of it. Good lord. It's just pathetic. The fact that people agree to it is equally lame.

I've seen worse. Like some stars who demand their M&Ms be only certain colors. Really, this isn't that bad. I don't see a thing wrong with it.

I was looking through some of those other riders on the site and found the infamous Van Halen rider with the "no brown M&M's. I have heard they added that to see if they actually read the rider and if they showed up and there were brown M&Ms they might have well ignored other aspects like sound and lighting.
Actually, looking through the Van Halen rider it wasn't that big of a deal considering the notoriety it had. They didn't ask for cream colored chairs, draperies and so forth. They gave choices of preferred food for entire crew and some basic room requirements, and they actually used the words 'whenever possible".
Now, as to what they will require nowadays is anyone's guess.
I thought the best requirement of VH's requirements were two full length mirrors. I am thinking both of them were for Dave. :)

There was an interview on NPR a few weeks ago I'm trying to find where the interviewee was saying how most of the ridiculous riders in contracts are just there to test the venue so more important things were done right, just as you said. They even mentioned Van Halen's M&Ms.

You have to remember that a lot of times the star isn't fully aware of what may be in the rider. I know a lady who tours with a lot of groups and she says the managers also put in things that they want. Since they are the ones dealing with the venues, they can get away with it.

I was listening to an interview this week and they talked about riders. They mentioned how Van Halen asked for certain color M&Ms, but they also discussed why that started.

Apparently, they had a clause in their rider that the stage had to support a certain amount of weight. During one show, the stage collapsed so they knew the rider wasn't read. From their on, they asked for nitpicky things figuring if someone took the time to pick out the unwanted M&Ms they did the rest too.

I remember Van Halen didn't want brown M & M's in the bowl otherwise they'd trash the green room. But I heard that they did it just to see if the riders were actually being read by the promoters or not.

So no one reads the riders, just like they don't read any of the posts above them? Cause I heard Van Halen doesn't like brown M&Ms.

I hear that van Halen only wants brown MnMs, but I'm just posting this to see if you actually read the thread.

;)
