Best way to polish paint?

Polishing compound? Wet-sand? Both? Something else? I have about 4 coats of Rust-oleum on a TK bucket, and want to give it a super deathstar shine (it's a present for my son). The paint itself is glossy, but in places the finish is not as smooth as I'd like it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Seth,

Make sure the paint is good and dry. Wet sand with 400, then 600, then 800 wet and dry, being very careful not to sand through. You are just trying to get an even surface. From grade to grade be sure to wash down the piece and inspect it dry to make sure that the previous grit marks have been removed. You should be able to now use something like Maguire's polishing compound and finish with something like Maguire's Swirl remover - increasingly finer grit polishing. A coat of good wax and it should look like glass. At least this is what works for me.
