Ultracal is easy enough to deal with. Number one, mix to the appropriate viscosity. I eyeball this, just from years of doing it. basically I want it thick enough to coat a wooden stir stick well. And when lifted it should make a nice thick even flowing stream off the end of the stick. Many liken it to a partially melted milkshake. If the sculpt was sealed with Crystal Clear, you will want to add a coat of Dulling Spray or Lemon Pledge to break the surface tension. Some people like to use their hands, but I like the old chip brush, and then just use the brush to force it into your detail. You can also give it a hit from an air compressor to blow in the detail too. I find that careful work with the brush is just fine though.
