Best way to display your prop collection..

Hey Guys,

I know that this topic has been discussed in the past, and i have gone through the threads, looking and reading what people have done. Right now, Im not interested in tricking out my office wit Ikea shelves, but I came across a number of props I have collected over he years, and would love to put them on display.

I'm happy to build stands, or if I can find an alternative, adapt something off the shelf. My question is, how hard is it to work with perspex? I have a DS Sandman Gun I really want to put on display, and want something that will do it the honour that it is... Nothing worse than a excellent prop, and a wooden cheap stand...

Same with some metal sabers and the likes.

If you have any ideas or examples, it would be appreciated!

I'm a big fan of shadow boxes (either store bought or custom made depending on the prop).

Katana Display - (I made this shadowbox)

I'm currently working on an all metal shadow box for my "Left for Dead" shotgun display.

I prefer this because I have kids and their friends have sticky fingers. The Japanese Katanas are razor sharp so I don't need them having access to them. The plexiglass cannot be removed without a special tool.

I def. love those displays. I am a tactile person and LOVE going through my collection and being able to hold and touch each piece (prob not the best for preservation). Right now I have a temporary set-up, but a crafty display could make a collection really pop.

If you have no concerns about tiny fingers, build the shadowboxes with opening or removable front panels.

I too like to pull my stuff out from time to time.

My "Left for Dead" shotgun display plexiglass is attached via magnetic pins. When you want to handle the shotgun, just remove the front panel. It's very easy.

Great collection and displays Del:cool:thumbsup

I agree!! Very nice!

You can't go worng with shadow box style displays. I could take a crap and throw it in a shadow box display and it would look good.

Del is the man when it comes to making display boxes. You definitely can't go wrong with this concept to protect and display your props in a very professional looking manor.

Definitely.. Costs too much Downunder.. Even Ikea's Detolf Displays.. YOu guys had them going for US$19.95 a while back, now their US$59.99.. Here in Australia $179, that's about US$195.95.. Bloody rip of for everything down here..

I recently have been buying a lot of pieces from Ikea, and these are two of the detolfs that I bought to display helmets.

I should point out that the helmet in the middle is an Efx AOTC clone. All the rest are my own. I mean that in a "I sculpted and molded and cast and painted" own sort of way.

In the back of the right cabinet, is a small black box of four clone troopers. I was given that by the nice people at Entertainment Earth for standing in their box at SDCC05.

I love that display method, clonesix- it's so useful for people like me with limited floor/wall space, plus it just looks classy =P

EDIT: Although I don't have any of those types of displays....

i like your set up too clone 6 mine so far stays in the box's they arrived in as i working on room to hold every thing and may go the Detolf case way my self for some items

Due to space issues I just have a couple of custom built shelves and 2 of the Detolf units (perfect for my T2 collection)

Jeezuss how many clone hats does one man need!?

"Need"? Are you frakkin' kiding me? What the H*E*Doulblehockeysticks does "Need" have anything to do with anything on this board?

No, seriously, my number is six21 and since my namesake on this board and the name of the armor is clonesix, I wanted six clone helmets to hang on the wall. I have never have the space to hold six helmets, and ended up selling my early ones. Now that I have room, I would like to finally achieve six grunts, two pilots and 1 officer (or noncom)

Shadow boxes look amazing... Where can you get them?

I usually get them at Michaels. The shadowboxes I used for the mini sabers is not available anymore. They carry some new design that is not as nice (cheaper made).

The blaster boxes are still carried and fit most prop blasters.

The boxes are silver but I paint them gloss black.

I make the pegs from aluminum bar stock and polish them using my own super secret method.

Anything larger requires a custom box (either metal or wooden). I have most of the metal and woodworking tools to make them.

As soon as the HCG Aliens Pulse Rifles ship, I'll be making a custom metal shadowbox to encase it as well. The front panel will be removable so I can play with it from time to time.

I do try to put pictures of the movie posters inside the boxes so visitors can figure out what movie they were shown in...
