I have the very good fortune to have some friends who work full time in the film industry. Combine that with my unstoppable charm, and I managed to coerce one of them into doing a PHENOMENAL build up of a japanese spinner kit for me.

I am TRULY shocked at how well it turned out. Not shocked becuase I didn't think he could do it, but shocked because I didn't know one of these kits could look soo good...

These pictures (Despite the fact that they look great..) do not do the piece justice. There is so much detail, shading, and beauty in the thing that just doesn't come through in the pics. Paint chips, shading, detailing. It's just nuts.

That looks absolutely amazing, Matt.. :eek

I had the honor to build one of those kits for a fellow board member over the holiday break am hoping that the finishing work looks as nice as yours. For lack of a better description, it is very teeny-weeny, extremely detailed, and easy to dry fit. Cutting the canopy is a bit frightening but, all turned out well.

IIRC, this was cast from one of the BG wide angle miniatures. It is an incredible piece for any BR collection. Take my words for what they are worth. I've only studied this prop a little....

...btw, this illuminated technical illustration dates around 2001. ;)

This is a 3ft scratchbuilt Spinner made by friend Ian.
He's still working on the Canopy but it's almost done...

It's against the rules to post pictures like this unless first shipping the actual item to the RPF Forum Manager.

I will ignore the oversight this one time provided the above Spinner is overnited to me immediately.

Very very nice replica of the 1/4 hero model. The color looks almost spot on. And the general shapes are correct, that is quite rare. Congrats to your friend.

Could you please share more pics with us of that amazing build up?

Maybe I should change the title of the thread to "best three inch spinner ever", since that quarter scale one kicks major.

A shame it's not 1:6 scale, so you could correctly place a ToySyndicate Android Hunter inside it:

    Excellent spinners all around.

I have to ask though Anson, when the spinner is that large...

Why did he not go for a more accurate interior, or did he just want to do his own thing there??

I think the cockpit is a mismash of different spinner miniatures and the full size one plus a bit of improv.
I've spoken to Ian today and I'll see if I can get more pictures.
He's also thinking about taking moulds a making a kit version...

    Gabe and the rest,

I did not explain myself well sorry. I said "best replica of the 1/4 hero" I was refereing to sike, proportion and shapes. As you may know already, props representing a same thing may vary in details and shapes dpending in the scale they are produced. The spinner car was no exception.

The amazing spinner made by Anson's friend reproduces the color and shapes of the 1/4 hero miniature, that had its differences with the 1/32 one and the full size prop. You can tell by the:
    -Windshield
    -Wheel hubs
    -Wheel hub arms
    -Searchlight
    -Area around searchlight
    -Rear flaps
    -Bubble windows on the sides

The 1/4 scale spinner was 44" long. 1/6 spinner should be 29 inches long, Anson said 3" feet (is this apprximated or exact?) so maybe the model is 1/6 after all.

Now PLEASE beg your friend to make a kit of it. PLEASE PLEASE

Seriously, if you decide you want to use it, I have it in a higher resolution if you need it. The bigger one shows all the text & numbers more clearly.

    P.S. Awesome Spinner.

    Hey guys GREAT SPINNERS.

I decided to jump into the spinner modelling game try my hand at it. I just purchased a Medico Spinner (BTTF car) and will be customizing it when it arrives. One particular detail which may be a bit of a problem will be the half tear drop shaped lights on top.....Anyone know a source (or found object) for these?

    Aye. I love spinners.

God I hope that big guy comes out in a kit.... Pleeaseeee beg, bride your buddy whatever it takes man...

I have the medicom, been waiting years for a supposed light kit to come out. Predicta, I would be very intrest in some decals.

Anson, does your buddies spinner doors open or wheels transform? I was dreaming about putting servos in for the doors and wheels. How cool would that be...

I did start an interest thread (junkyard) but most people ended up wanting a smaller scale model.
This was going to happen obviously because the whole idea was to mould this paticular miniature - it took him an age to work on the form and the prospect of making a smaller model didn't appeal to him.
We did say a price between $1250 and $1500 but I don't think it generated enough interest for my friend Ian to bother I'm afraid...

    VADER: NOoooOOOOoOOOOOOOOoooo.....

I cant speak for anyone else, but I just put a price out there. Ask your buddy to tell us what ballpark hes in at least. Im sure some of us here would shell out more if it was a real option to buy

Small scale? funk that. There are plenty of small scale spinners out there, look at mats spinner up at the front of this thread. MIM has a smaller kit, the medicom kit is small. WE NEED BIGGGGGGGGGG

Have you tried getting some support from other forums? Bladezone perhaps? Lots of others out there.

Maybe have him contact Monsters in Motion and do a run. Ebay. Lots of possiblities.

here's an old pic of a spinner I scratchbuilt in 1983 :) It was about the same size as the medicom. Deckard and Gaff were a bit big though.

Pity white and blue LED's weren't around back then.

Definitely up for a larger scale kit.
