Best and easiest mold making material

Hi all
What is the best and easiest material to use when making a mold? Im going to use silicone I think. I have a large item I'd like to make a mold of but I'm a newbie at molding and what's a good material to use in the mold? Thanks for your time.

Go to Smooth-on's site and watch a bunch of their videos. Twice. Then buy their products.

+1 to what valor said. I'm not sure how large your large item is, but if you can try something small first to get the hang of using the material. A mistake on a first time large mold can get expensive real fast.

What are you trying to mold? There are so many factors here. It's easy to just say "silicone," which is certainly easy to use, but even what you're trying to mold may affect what kinds of silicone you should (or, indeed, can) use.

Silicone is also expensive. There are cheaper options if, for example, you're molding clay or you're only going to use the mold once.
