Howdy mates,
Swede here building Bender from Futurama out of real steel.
I lack experience and built mostly from scrapyard so Bender prolly looks like a piece of shxxxeit in your eyes but I post him anyway hoping my build put a smile on ya'll. ;)
Dunno what to say so I post a video for you with lots of blabla...

Oh yeah, should prolly say this is my own interpretation of what Bender would translate to IRL... = what he would look like in reality.

It's awesome! It would've been cool if you put a speaker in his mouth and recorded some of the things Bender says.

I agree, only way to make that even better is to have him talk!

Heat seeking sensors in the eyes might be cool too that might be a little expensive though. But then the eyes would follow you/ or anybody elses movements.

I agree this is the best first post I've ever seen, it's great to see interesting first posts as opposed to the whole "Give me all your pepakura and I'll never be back after" first threads.

This is a warmer reception than I could ever have imagined, thanks mates!

I lost the place I worked on Bender thus I am at a halt.
(My parents backyard, I basically have three tools a mig, an angle grinder and a sledgehammer using a wobbly piano chair as workbench.)
It is build in solid iron - really like a frikkin tank.

I just had two pics and a wishlist/note with ideas to work my own version from,
wanted a cam in eyes to watch peoples reactions,
voice module and i saw some android app that you could click and choose homer simpson frases - one with bender captions would be awesome
and you may laugh plenty at me now but I have been trying to talkt the guys at the local scrapyard to sell me a crunched seqway - my ridicilous dream is to make rollerscates for bender and use the segway to mobilize him *blushing*
I have half finished animatronic arms for him, including fingers, wires, a neck that can turn and nod but needs motorization.
(Temporarily put fine tubing in his arms so I can bend them for posing, the shoulders are ball bearings that can be tighten to "lock" down.)
I also made the mouth a single part that have invisible lock to lift off, and my idea was to put a band around it, behind the metal bars, and a motor that left/right drive the band ,with peaks on it, so it looks like he speaks when the Voice module sets off.
Also wanted the camera to be in the eye so i remotely could follow visitors with eyes/neck, gesture with arms and say unfitting things bender style.
I think theyd **** their pants if he suddenly animates :)
My idea list is long,
unfortunately I'm a dummie so I have no clue how to make a voicethingie with motion detectors,
Oh guys this is getting long, so I spare you further rambling for now

You should rig up one of those Heineken mini-keg refrigerators inside of him, haha.

Nice build. I love the fact you've not simply gone for a replica and put a bit of artistic licence into the design.
You've achieved your goal. It put a big cheesy grin on my face for sure.

Bender is becoming quite a popular build. I'm only a pair of trouser legs shy of finishing my own Bender costume for this years Halloween party (majorly influenced by the Bird Dog's). Only trouble with it is that with me being over 6 ft tall and looking through the mouth the venue best have a high ceiling :)

I am sorry I have not found a space to continue work on Benders finer motoric skills.

HOWEVER!
Tomorrow I have the opportunity to sneak in to my parents garage while they are gone,
I don't know if there is anything I can do on Bender on such a short notice without pre-planning.
So I figure I will try and do something completely else for you mates as thanks for your support feedback and warm interest.
I dont have much to work with, basically I got this stuff today like T-minus 17 mins before the scrapyard closed the gates
40cm pipe with a diameter of 20cm
57cm pipe with a diameter of about 10?cm (ends banged up) and to wide for what I have in mind...
a chrome ring (actually from the watch spring support that I remade to make the above antenna for Bender)
a really banged up ****ed beyond repair small aga gas tube thats kinda roundish and in the neighbourhood of 30cm diameter, but oh'boy it is wrecked like turned inside out.
That pretty much sums it up, additionally I hope to find a small metall ball from maybe a bearing or something and a speck of paint in my parents house...

So I humbly apologize in advance for not bein able to follow proportions and besides theres only that much you can do in a couple of hours.
Dunno if this is possibly but I'll give it a shot with hopes I can turn it in to something silly and if so I'll post some pics for yall and you can hit me with some feedback :)
