Belt hooks for sabers

What do people usually use to hang their Original Trilogy sabers from their belts?

I am working on a Luke Tatooine costume, and my focus is mostly visual impact and comfort, not so much complete prop accuracy.

I have a D-Ring saber to hang from my belt, but I don't know what kind of clip/hook I should use. I would like to have a movie-accurate hook, but I don't know what it is, or if it's even practical as a sure-fire way to keep my saber from falling off.

Any suggestions?

i used a 100 pound picture hanger from wally world on mine, and i also made one from stainless steel with a piece from a money clip to act as a safety. you had to press the tab in and pull the d-ring up and off, that kept it from jumpin off the hook no matter what i did.

firebladejedi, thanks for the tip. I've PM'ed lghtsbr, so hopefully he'll get back to me.

Lan-Ed-Tul, I like your suggestion using the picture hanger, and I might go that route if I don't hear from lghtsbr. The hook with the money clip sounds a little complicated, and I'm not sure I'd have the tools to pull that off.

I'm also wondering if something like a lobster clasp would work.

Thanks!

Here is just a functional suggestion but not accurate...

I used the clip from the back of an old kid's car seat. It was used for my son's Luke Skywalker belt...

yeah the 100# pic hanger will only need the mount holes drilled out to fit the poprivot you intend to use, and i would also use some pop rivot washer on the backside of belt.

if your using a belt like in the newer movies, like i made myself, the only part you see is just the end of the hook,. just below the center 1 inch strap belt.

i made my own belt, in the new movie style, so mine has the dbl row of sam brown studs, with a 1 inch belt in the center, and the main belt is 2 1/2 inches wide. i rivoted the hanger so its under the small strap, hidden and no ugly lookin thing to be seen.

Actually its real easy to make your own saber hook. I've made them before and it only takes a few minutes.

All you need is some sheet metal, a metal shear, a hand drill, and a small hammer.

If you want to give it a try, PM me your email address and I'll send you the pattern with measurements, and instructions.

heres my belt, with the pic hanger installed, its mostly hid under center strap, and it works just fine and the center belt acts like a guard and keeps the dring from flippin off, and its easy to get it off too when wantin to weild it, course my saber are functional luxeon sabers, so i can do that.
