Behind the scenes discipline

The staff's ignoring of this thread is somewhat worrying :unsure
It's also quite telling....

Y'know, I've mostly been a lurker here because my skills aren't anywhere near what the bulk of the members have. However, I've learned a lot of new techniques to which I've made notes on my 'puter back home, so still came here. What I'd been seeing of what the Mods/Admin were doing over the last year was a bit much for me, so I started coming here less and less.

With this latest attempt at obfuscation on the part of the staff here, I really don't have a reason to come back if a community is going to do this sort of thing to it's members w/o logical explanation. I mean, at least own up to your mistakes like adults are supposed to and make it right! :rolleyes

Why does discipline HAVE to be a public thing?

I'm sure your neighbor can disagree with his/her spouse or children without going out on the front lawn and declaring it all to the neighborhood. If someone you work with is being disciplined, the supervisor doesn't hold a meeting and tell everyone the details.

So, the staff decided to send you a message in private, so what? It doesn's mean they're hiding something from everyone, it's being discreet. There's a huge difference.

I asked Mark if he ever received a private message from a mod and he asked me to post this:

"...Nope. no one ever said I was warned or received an official warning. I was told on the board I, as well as everyone in the thread, received a scolding. I never got anything like Juno did. I told Jay I understood his need to mod the thread."

Then when it was proven the basis of his ban was untrue and the moderators erred, he's now banned "just because. . ."

This isn't the first time this has happened, both in regards to a ban based on untruths or a "just because" ban... The staff has a history of doing both, and they have made it quite clear that policy is once banned always banned regardless of further facts or information, they will never reverse their decisions...

One thing is for sure this thread is being ignored, and even when and if there is an official reply it will be twisted and spun so far out of context it won't bring any conclusion...

It could happen to you, with no jutification, explanation or recourse. Have a nice day :)

Except they do tell people the details,at least regarding bans that's what the banned members thread is there for.

I have to say that while I personally thought all the players in that Ultimate E thread deserved banning, the mods really botched the Mycroft ban. The minute they discovered their reason was wrong, they should have re-admitted him and told him he had 1 chance left due to all the rest of the stuff. This attitude of "well he would have been banned anyway so it still stands" is not right and it has been used far to many times from Moogybaby on.

C'mon guys, fix these moderation screw-ups and move on in an even-handed, fair way. :wacko

It's kind of like my dad spanking my butt before we went over to visit friends because he knew I was going to get a spanking in the end anyway.

I just suppose that each time you post in this thread you get an infraction point, and when we have all posted four times, we'll all get banned.
I expect that's what the mods are waiting for...
:lol

Everyone that has posted to this thread is now on double secret probation.:love

I would like to think that those with the admin/mod control panel are discussing this in private (yes, I know that's counter to my original post). Yet, I'd rather see a single well-thought out post that explains / fixes this whole infraction craziness rather than twenty posts that just continue to obfuscate the issue.

And although my rational head believes the above, irrationally, I can't help but believe the whole "ignore them and they'll go away." After all, out of the vast RPF membership, the percentage who cares about how it's run (that includes the mods / admins) has got to be less than 2.

If they are discussing behind the scenes, why not post to clarify that?

I think Juno is essentially correct. Not enough people care, so why should the admins?

I think you nailed it, Birdy.

Many moons ago, the RPF had a Feedback Forum for that very reason...the Admins cared about what the members thought and would willingly answer questions and converse with its members freely to help alleviate concerns and issues.

I think we reached an impasse whereas the current staff really does not care and perhaps even lacks the skills to properly address board issues with its members in an effective manner. (Hence why the staff removed the Feedback Forum.)

This “Suggestion Box” reminds me of an episode of “The Office”…

I think that's where it all gets derailed -- the admins / mods / whatever are also active members of the RPF. Isn't that how they became moderators? That's what makes the lack of dialog disconcerting.

For the record, I don't think anyone is knowingly being wrong, devious, or bad, I just think (as it is everywhere) there's a real problem with admitting a mistake was made.

But yeah, being ignored is making it smell a bit rude in here.

I sent a PM to RPF staff, and that's gotten the ignore treatment as well.
