Has been fantastic watching your progress on this piece, has inspired me to make my full recreation, is slow going and constantly correcting things but I look forward to showing more in future, hope everyone has been well!

Its coming together nicely! The vertical text should all be lower case except for the first word NOTICE. As to the font I'm not sure what it is but it does have an unusal g. I recreated that part by scanning an original packets text and then cutting it up and reassembling it back to its correct layout.

I always wished it was easier for starting diary makers to get desired inserts (official and fan made) so I'm just gonna dump my entire file of inserts

My wife showed me a Chinese knockoff diary that has what looks like all of the inserts previously shared here. Looks like the famous, "Can you upload the file here" scenario. It even has the brown postal wrap with the twine cord and printed postage (not real stamps).

Hi there, so after long time lurking my time has come to ask a question since I am planning to make a grail diary wrapper.

So far I am planning on printing the package label on a 1949 Boston style print press like it would had been done back in the time the story is set and also probably was done for the movies since the late 80s had been still pre-digital print times and especially for small batches of prints like for movies they pretty sure did this on a similar machine.
And it is something you can see in person because a „real“ print looks and feels different to a nowadays nown digital print.

From the pictures from the Lucas Archives I saw from the wrapper it looks pretty clear that they done it manually in one rush because it looks like they didn’t even bother cleaning the printer and applying a different color so stamp and adress sticker having the same color together with the very low level of detail on the stamp itself wich resulted from too much pressure while printing and having selfmade stamps. Real stamp stamps have a way higher level of quality especially in the shading. So maybe I try to recreate the stamp as well and make it by myself to match that style (wich means at least I can cut them out just straight)

The thing I am asking myself right now is if the adress was a thing that was added (storylike) in the post office or if they had been something pre fabricated carried around by Jones Sr. because case one would need to find a manual typewriter with that styly of letter or (wich is for me easier) finding some letter set from the late 30s and doing a second print on top with the adress?

I decided for the new year I wanted to pick a project I’ve attempted to tackle several times over the years, but never got too far with. You have helped me with some of my loose ends, but better yet this post has help ignite the spark that keeps going out. THANK YOU for sharing all of your heard work, passion, and endless research. My favorite thing about the RPF is the free sharing of information. I understand the importance and sensitivity of the work we all put on here, as I have had some of my own designs as free paper props, sadly end up on ebay. I’m glad theres still a level of respect here of other people’s hard work.

Ok, ya got me! I gotta finally make me a Grail diary! But, I have a book I picked up, The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones. It has a lot of pics, letters, drawings, a bunch of stuff, going from his youth, Temple of Doom, Raiders, Last Crusade, to Crystal skull. Everything you see, are just quick pics, I took from my phone.
If anyone is interested, I can scan the pics, but they will need some photo shop help, cause there are over lays of notes, that ties into Crystal Skull, or explanations. Maybe something here, that can be used!

This might save you some work. The lost diary has been a great source for Indy props since it was published. Magnoli also has a great copy of the Henry Jones Sr travel document for sale as well as the Indy drivers license and Barnett ID card.

I've been doing some digging, and I have found so much insert material in other threads! A lot of stuff! I thought everything would
be Dead links, or not available. Just have to do some looking!

Also check out club obi wan for grail diary inserts. It does require a lot of looking and you are right about there being a lot of dead links and attachments but there's still a lot to be found.

I didn't know that! I know it has Lucasfilm on the back, so it must
have met the demands for publication

Magnoli has talked about his involvement in the art design for this book in the forum before, so his props are as close to the real thing you can get.
