Hi. I am a new member but have checked the site out regularly and every creation I see is absolutely brilliant. I was hoping you would be able to answer a couple of questions I am having. 1) Which would be the best Iron Man suit to begin with in your opinion? 2) How long roughly would the build take?

Thanks for reading and hopefully taking the time to answer.

I hate to say it man, but there's no definitive answer to either of your questions. Each different suit comes with its' own set of challenges and it depends what YOU are really looking for. If you want a concise roadmap, then Mark 3, 4/6, and 7 may be your best bet as their are plenty of available pepakura files. However if you don't mind scouring the web and building up a ton of resource images and doing a scratch build, it's a good way to go. A lot of the newer armors featured in IM3 don't have files yet, a lot of our community is hard at work trying to make files as we speak. As for how long would the build take, well how much do you want to sleep and what's your agenda look like? But that doesn't account for skill level, problems or hiccups that arise, etc. Also it depends on which route you take, such as in doing a paper build or a foam build? How do you want to finish it? Just seal the foam and spray paint or would you like to get into the nitty gritty and seal it and rondo it or put Smooth-On products on it? I think based on your own personal knowledge of what you've seen in these build threads you can make the best decision.

Thanks for the super quick reply. What you have said actually helps a lot. I was thinking about building the mark III armour and colouring it silver. Thought it might be easier.

in my opinion, if you do not have any experience in....
oh wait, what media you want to use, paper or foam?

Paper build is longer than foam build, but it has more details.

My advise is to make 4/6 first because it has more straight cut and bend. Mk3 and 2 got a lot of curves which may be difficult for beginners.
BTW, Mk3 with added rivets (use bb pellets) and silver paint is Mk2.
Mk7 is combination of 4/6 and 3, with tons of details.

How long is depending on you, your skill, your willingness to disconnect from the world, tools, method of build, and many other factors.

I was planning on using paper it seems easier. Thanks for the tip of using BB pellets though, that's a great idea.

First of all, welcome to the forum. We are alway glad to see people join and become part of the comunity.

You have picked a tough subject, and given a tough question, one for which, is not easily answered. But since this is purely based on my opinion, I would say the Mark I is the best Iron Man to start with, as it is the most giving with respect to shape. I mean that in terms of the MK II, III..., they are very ridged with their shape and angles, where the MK I can be more forgiving.

As far as method, The MK I lends itself (very well) to EVA Foam construction. There are many threads n this here, and on Youtube.

My advice to a beginer is to try and build something in scale first. It will use less expensive material and effort, and you you can try mutiple methods before going 1:1

Welcome and possibly the two most difficult questions to answer , as to which suit , the recommendationd here are good ones , curves are tricky and you can easily make mistakes, make a paper model first , doesn't cost a lot and you really learn by doing , once your happy with your build , then go on to either try a foam one or to finish the paper one with PVA, Fibreglass or Resin . If you build at the weekend and the odd evening , expect it to take four or five weeks , don't try to rush it like some do here ( no disrespect meant) and do a build in seven days!! take your own time and learn as you goo , read post , explore threads , watch the videos , research and allways ask questions , there is no such thing as a dumb question !!!

I am just a noob myself, but i have found in any project i took on. It would have to be one that i gravitated to the most. I find by doing this, it becomes alot easier. Just a thought...GM

As a newb myself I can't offer much help with your questions, but I'd definitely recommend reading over all the IM build threads that you can and watching the YT videos(Stealthcosplay, etc).

That's what I've been doing as I plan on making some armor within the coming months, but like to research ridiculously before jumping in lol.
