Hi there, Hoopy froods!
So I'm about 30% into my build for my replica Marvin Robot from the BBC TV series of Hitchhiker.

Going quite well - it's mainly a 3D printed and Vac-formed process, so most of it is covered. I'll be putting a soundboard of phrases and rants inside, and some lighting.

Hoping to get him finished before the end of July for an event in Cardiff, so I've launched a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise some funds which will allow me to pay for more printing etc in time.

In return, I'm offering backers all my drawings, pics, measurements, construction videos, artwork, sound clips and more, so all the working out and research will be yours if you want to build your own . Heres' the link: >>CLICK THIS<<

Check it out and thanks for your time!

Ok, only NINE days left and I'm at 80% Anyone want to jump in on this? tinyurl.com/ta4xm8l

At 5:31am, I was sitting at my PC working (as always) and the birdies outside began to sing. "The morning chorus," I thought - no! They were singing in celebration that this project has hit it's target with 6.5 days left to go!

The best thing about this is the last pledge came from none other than the man who ACTUALLY WAS MARVIN - Actor David Learner, who wore the original suit and performed him in the iconic BBC TV serioes in 1981. That's so touching, fitting and memorable. I'm so grateful, thanks David, you're a gent!

By the way,
I'm having a metal plate engraved to go on the back of the costume, dedicated to David, and also the legends that are the late Stephen Moore, the voice of Marvin, and Douglas Adams - the Head Frood and creator of all things Hitchhikery:

Like this but in chrome silver.

I'm immensely grateful to everyone involved!

Thank you to everyone who liked, shared, chipped in and tolerated the last month of my robo-spam!

Rewards will be sent out as soon as I can possibly get them together and have a list of email addresses for you.

There's still a week left - so there's still time to tell people who might be interested, or up your pledge to claim one of the bigger rewards? Either way, we're up and running!

You're going to see a fun, exciting recreation of one of British Sci-Fi's most iconic characters!

Updates
will be sent out via Kickstarter, Email and I'll probably open up a PRIVATE, BACKERS ONLY Facebook page where I can show you all the progress photos, videos and more. OF course, I'll post up a build thread here on RPF too.

3 Days left and I'm super excited that the target has been surpassed. Working on the artworks to send out on the 18th.
Thanks to all that showed an interest and support.
:)

If anyone wants my models/STLS for the BBC Marvin parts I'm working on, you can get them from Tinkercad here:

Terry Cooper | Tinkercad

NB: I don't claim these to be 100% accurate. They are mainly done by eye, using my quite feeble 3D skills. If you're looking for perfect parts, it may be that you can amend or edit my pieces.

Loving the enthusiasm and passion here, and some of the memories its brought back.
My brother Dale took me to a Doctor Who celebration at Longleat when I was a child, 1983 I think? 30 year Anni of the show, anyway the BBC special effects department had a tent there, which was filled with wonderous things, one of them being Marvin. He was a splendid piece of kit which lingered in my mind for many years, so much so when a fancy dress pub crawl was announced at our local Cult TV group back in 93 Marvin was my inspiration - so out with the cardboard, and a head was born (see pic with my beloved cat, Cooper) then scroll forward to 2012 he reappears on my 42nd birthday cake! - there's a better pic somewhere!
Thanks for the memory, and I'm sure if you want any photos of him from 83, I can get my brother to look through his for you?
regards
Martin

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'd love to see any pics that you have. Its a constant surprise to me that Marvin hasn't really been embraced by the prop robot culture as much as say R2D2 or B9.
I'm now making much more progress since I got my own 3d printer, and I'd say that I have 80% of the parts I need. I'll be doing updates on my YouTube channel (Terry On Tuesday) and I'll do my best to update here too.

My latest update.

Thanks again!

Currently the head has been stripped of the horrible paint job that I attempted, sanded and reinforced with resin, and is awaiting more filler and primer.

Skirt, which was vacformed many moons ago, has been posted to me. it looks flimsy but it IS ABS, and will be strong (and light-ish) once I assemble and reinforce it. it's in 4 quarters currently.
