Okay, so fast forward past a pandemic, and now the event thatI need Marvin for has been rescheduled twice, and is now taking place on 30th & 31st July. That gives me four months to get him together and even now I'm not entirlet sure he'll fot or that I can mov in him. Theres' 'going to be a lot of weight on my shoulders.

In the past couple of weeks, I've been trying to vfinish up the upper arms which have been the bane of my life, and admittely, I've called them done even though the sanding process is less than perfect. But Now I'm aiming for progress, as opposed to perfection.

Today, I'v received the fibreglass torso box, exactly one year after I bought it. It got shipped to a friend of mine, who kindly agreed to dremel out the neck and arm holes. I don't mind it taking so long - we were in the pandemic and it wasn't needed urgently. But I have it now and that means I have bsically all I need to finish up and assemble him. With four months to go!

Here's the head sitting on the torso box.

And attached an assortment of recent pics of work in progress.

Looking fantastic Terry! You're making me want to make use of the models I made off your plans. Finding a similar fibreglass planter to the one you used in the US is a right pain, especially in mm. (seriously, why haven't we caught up with the rest of the world yet?)

Would be great to see more Marvins around! I don't understand how the US sticks to the Imperial system, after all, you'd think the US would've discarded it because it's British? I grew up with inches and feet, and for a long time it was tricky to change over, but CM and MM is a LOT simpler and more accurate - to my mind at least.

Bolted into it today. Looks weird without the arms but it's not too bad, proportion-wise. Compare to the real thing.

Excellent so far, great project. When I was younger I wanted a sci-fi museum full of robots, then I grew up, now that I've reached a point in my life when I think to myself, "what if", so now I'm taking a "leap of faith", I've gone back to my childhood dream and planning on making it a reality. I've looked at other threads, an ABC warrior, Aliens, now Marvin. There are a couple of sci-fi museums here in Britain, so it's possible to make it come true. Also a fan in the Midlands made a replica of Johnny 5. I'm new to RPF, but I'm already a collector of movie memorabilia and seeing these different threads, and what fans create, it's absolutely amazing, and now with 3D printing being a lot more mainstream (and cheaper now), our childhood dreams can really come true. Keep up with your excellent work.

Oh yes, 3D printing has definitely made this possible. Even though I've moved into a bigger place, I still wouldn't want to do sculpting, moulding and fibreglassing these parts. a 3D printer - and other people with printers - has made life much easier. Thanks for the kind words, I'm hoping to do a full suit up soon.

Had the octagon plated CNC'd out of Dibond , as the price of aluminium seems to have overtaken gold or something...
Ideally, the two join lines above the plate shouldn't be visible. I might fill 'em one day.
That's it for the skirt now. All done. Although a bit of silver overspray on the rubber mat is annoying and impossible to get off. I might hit it with some black paint.

I was looking at the Entertainment Memorabilia Live auction and I couldn't help but notice this Nostromo door panel from Alien looked a bit familiar..
