Battle Los Angeles Review *spoilers*

Wow, what a great movie. this makes up for the fact i watched Skyline and hated it. really hated it, did i mention i hated skyline? that movie seemed so small as compared to Battle. In Battle, i truly believed it could happen (aliens invade for our water). It seemed the whole city was under attack, and i even liked the alien designs, what little you see of them. I kept expecting will smith to show up and save the day, but no. They certainly didnt go into detail about the aliens or their motivations (unlike ID4), but that was ok.

For me, I was happy they did'nt go into the motivations of the aliens. Seemed much more plausible to me. This was something that was happening fast. We know these meteor's are coming...oh snap! they are slowing down. Oh snap, they are hostile, taking out people on the beach.

We really know nothing about them other than they are behaving in a way that indicates they want to exterminate us for our planet and they are using our water.

Not a great film by any stretch, but it was enjoyable.

Yeah, I agree with MooCricket. Not great but enjoyable. Liked the alien/vehicle/creature/weapon designs. The alien "energy bazooka" on four legs was inspired!

You can always question logic choices: The aliens have their drone command centers just below ground level where a small team of earthling grunts can get in close and take them out. Wha? Why not anchor those bad boys in planetary orbit? I could go on...

Good fun, all in all.

They did explain that, you know?

Just saw it today with the wife, and we both liked it quite a bit. As she put it, "It was like a war movie, but with aliens in it". I liked how we actually saw the people fighting the war, rather than focusing on a random bunch of civilians, as well as the fact that the aliens weren't invicible for 9/10ths of the movie. The Marines were effective against the invaders throighout the movie, which is a refreshing change from things like ID4 and Skyline.

And if you don't like this movie, you're an idiot... Is what I'd say if I were the exact opposite of Roger Ebert.

Like I said in the other thread, I liked it. Not the greatest film in the world, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Anybody who can't see beyond the setting of the film, the alien invasion, is kinda missing the point. It's really about personal struggles in life. Gnerally, the squad of Marines and the civilians they've been sent to rescue, but specifically Staff Sgt Nantz and his search for redemption.

Even if the film isn't entirely successful as an all out alien invasion or war film, on that point it doesn't fail.
