a rotaing version is a good idea but i played with the 3d model and saw that its just no working. the parts a too big and it looks not good so it will be a static alu version.

There is a guy on Intructables.com who made a rotating version out of plexiglass. Don't see why it can't be cut into metal with a similar rotating mechanism. I've only played a little of Asylum so I don't think I've seen what it looks like folded.

I haven't played the game in a while, but I dont' think the standard batarang is animated. The model in the game doesn't have any animation tracks associated with it. The sonic batarang has an open/close animation but it looks nothing like the batarang in this thread (the standard batarang).
