I love it! Im making my own boots as well! I bought my Nike air trainer 3's from Eastbay (all black leather but with silver/white soles which I will have paint with black rubberized automotive undercoat).
What are the spats and armor made off? The boot armor looks nice and stiff. Like resin almost.

The shin parts are resin and the bottom latex. Mine are purple, black, and orange..best I could find with my size..need to find a tutorial for attaching these thoug. Good luck to you too!
