Im in need of a pair of god quality resin fins/gauntlets and boots for my Batgirl costume. Im hoping to have this all together in time for SDCC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

What version of batgirl are you doing? I have a few ideas just need some narrowing down. Sounds like you went in the right direction for the cowl though!!

This one :)

Awesome! that makes this even easier! Ok so I would go to your local costuming store (or ebay) and pick up some black Vader Gloves. These will be too big for your forearm but you can take them in with fabric glue or sewing.

Go out and get some foamies from a craft store and some some yellow plasti-dip from a hardware store and you have the makings of some great gloves.
The plasti-dip is a great yellow and since it is plastic based it stretches and doesn't crack like normal spray paint when you move in it. Also you can use the foamies to cut the fins out of and glue to the gloves, foamies plasti-dips well.

Also go here: CosWorx :: Footwear :: Women - Knee Boots :: Seduce 2000 - Knee Boots
for some yellow boots to match. You can add the bat at the top with the foamis sprayed yellow or you can go out and get some matching vinyl
and cut the bat at the top of the boot out of that.

If you're not as crafty or don't have the time you could also try to contact the user "artsee1" on here and see if he can mail you some cast batfins, my husband bought some from him and they were awesome. Here's his finished suit with the fins on the gloves, he's the Batman in the middle. (they're not glued on crooked, he was moving his wrist weird when the picture was taken)

Actually all three suits (minus the cowls) are made out of foamies and covered in plasti-dip. The yellow on the Robin costume is all yellow plasti-dip

Hope this helps and isn't too long-winded:lol, good luck!!!!

Thank you soo much.. I emails artsee1 about the resin fins and he has yet to reply to any of my emails *tears*

I'll go shopping for fomies tomorrow and what's the best place to fins this plastic-dip? I have never heard of such a product.. LOL!!

Hi Mystique,

why do the fins have to be made out of resin? I'm an experienced PADD maker since 1994 and I'm using colored PVC hard foam. You can treat this material just like wood, but it doesn't break.

I guess those fins are easy to make out of yellow PVC and I already have an idea to attach them on the gloves.

I don't know if these are all of the place but here "Home Depot" has it. If you got to any big hardware store they should have some. It comes in aresol and in a can, try to get the aresol it goes on more even. Hope artsee1 emails you back if not good luck with the gloves and boots!!! :D

I have no way of cutting the PVC to the shape I need then.. The resin fins that artsee1 offers in his website are just so beautiful.. all I would have to do is paint them.

Your wish is my command.... :)

You did a GREAT job on the cape, Tia.. Im so happy.. just like I told ya via fb.. it just needed some minor adjustment.

Outline of the yellow boot before it went under the knife:

after the bat symbol was cut out:

Testing to see if it's lined up properly.. then going to adhere Velcro to the back so the wings don't flap around.

Batgirl cowl too small to fit properly.. so I hve to cut off the neck line. Here's the outline drawing of the cut line:

Cape a little to wide.. making the proper adjustments:

Back view of how the center seam folds over some.. I'm such a tiny person.. we took 2" off the center panel.. and it looks AMAZING!!! ;)

...

You could also use some thin styrene and glue it behind the vinyl. The velcro might warp the cutout area when you move. If the styrene idea does not work out as you thought you still can stick some velcro behind it.

The current static on that channel drives me nuts :lol Thank god there´s no reruns and ads on there :p

Great idea, ManfromNaboo!! I think I'll give that a try :)

Now if only the guy that I purchased the bat belt, fins and chest emblem would return my frakkin emails.. so I can find out what's the frakkin HOLD UP... I should have this on time for SDCC!!!

Im about to fly my Viper over to his residence and blast him from the sky!

Looks great!! Good job!! I agree with putting styrene behind the vinyl, just make sure you then line that with foamies or something non-abrasive, I have used many of those catsuits and they will mark up quickly.
I'm excited to see it finished!!

thanks for the foamies and styrene advice.. I'll be working on this tomorrow..

OK.. I just got these in today.. and I'm very disappointed of how all the yellows don't match up!! UGH!! I now have to repaint this and find a color brand that will adhere to rubber and resin. The sad part is.. I got all this from the SAME vendor. He didn't even make the effort to make sure it all matches up!!

Hmm acrylic based paints should adhere to rubber/foam rubber, at least, thats what I believe people have been using on foam rubber clone trooper belts
