I've been messing around with the idea of a batarang, and after a lot of research. Basically finding pictures online and info on the size and thickness etc etc. I finally found the time to take a few images and use adobe illustrator to trace one. I've seen a few on here that were really nice. Work has been really busy so I didn't have the time to do a test cut. Luckily today I had some time and made my test cuts. I used 1/4" acrylic to get an idea if my "design" would work. So far so good. In the end I will be making it out of 1/4" aluminum. Although I've read that it should 3/16" thick. My test cut doesn't have the beveled edges that the aluminum will. This is just to get the basic idea for fabrication.
So here is a picture of the acrylic test piece.
I think the overall design is just where I need it to be. The center piece, also acrylic here, has a laser etched symbol. The final product will also be out of aluminum and I will bevel the edges slightly and engrave the symbol as well.
One thing I did notice when I was researching the RPF was that everyone asked the same question on all Batarang threads. "Does it fold?"
So I will answer that question.
Yes, yes it will.
Being that work is really busy and I still have a few issues to address, the aluminum version might have to wait till the beginning of June.
