Question Banned member activity (answered)

I just happened to click on a banned member's profile today and noticed it said most recent activity was today, yet the person was banned last year. I checked another banned member and it shows activity since their banning. Are they able to view the forum while logged in and banned? But not post, or what is the deal?

I can't speak for this forum, but on other forums that use the vBulletin software banned members are still able to log in and view the forum, but have no posting or PM privileges.

:confused

They can attempt to log in, but they receive a message that there account has been banned. They cannot do anything member related after attempting to log into their account, but they can view the public parts of the site as can anyone.

And you didn't feel a reported post was enough? Come on now... 3 minutes isn't quite enough time for us to respond between reporting a post and making a public statement...

I didn't say who it was, and they were not on the banned member list, I doubt anyone would know who I was talking about.

I've been in the lurch for weeks, no word on what happened, or why, total radio silence. Not that anyone owes me anything, but no word on the banning, the investigation, the unbanning, nothing.

Put yourself in my shoes- what was I supposed to think ?

I think you've got the wrong idea. My posting was not intentional, more accidental.

1. Member starts posting rude, disrespectful things.
2. I report member, he gets banned.
3. Nothing is ever said to me about what happened.
4. A week or two later, I see banned member post.
5. I report post.
6. I go to 'Announcement' section to check member ban log for info.
7. He's not on the list, but there is a new Thread NOT STARTED BY ME about banned members posting even though they are banned.
8. I think "hey, this sounds like what is going on with this banned member" and I post in that Thread to provide info in case there is some software issue or loophole allowing a security breech or something.
9. Oops, turns out I'm just a big jerk and made to look stupid for trying to help. I'm given no info, never reached out to, guess it was my responsibility to ask questions, I'm an idiot for thinking I was helping.

Sorry to be such a loser, it won't happen again.

You know what, just forget the whole freaking thing. I've had so much wind taken out of my sails about the RPF as a result of this Thread I don't care
anymore. My feelings are really hurt over how I've been treated here.

Sorry for being a Monday morning armchair MOD. Carry on.

I think some of your thoughts/concerns need to be addressed because it appears that there is some confusion.

5,9) You reported the post last night, and in about 30 minutes you received a pm from me explaining the situation. So I have no idea what #9 is all about.

1,2,3) You were not the only member that reported the original incident regarding the strange/rude posts, actually a number of members reported the posts. We are not able to reply to, and follow up with every member that reports a post. I think that you can understand that with multiple members reporting the same posts, it gets very time consuming to try and followup with everyone that reported the post especially when it's a drawn out issue.

We even posted and stuck a thread in this very forum specifically addressing the fact that we are not able to reply to or individually address every member that reports post. Here is the link: http://www.therpf.com/f16/reporting-posts-pms-staff-staff-response-member-concerns-103812/

This excerpt, I think, addresses the specific situation that you find yourself in.
AFTER YOU HAVE REPORTED A CONCERN

Members often feel an attachment to an issue they have reported or have an expectation that the staff should report back to them with progress on the issue as well as final decisions. While we understand the natural inclination to feel this way, this is not our standard operating procedure. While we ask that members report concerns, your involvement often ends at the reporting stage. If you report using the Report System (which is the only way you should report an issue) rest assured we have indeed received your concern. Again the Report System is automated and a thread about your concern is automatically created for us. Some have asked if an automated response can be sent to the reporter. All that would do is assure you that the Report System is working, not that the staff has seen your concern. Again, if you send through the Report System, we got it.
7) If you take a look at this this thread, you will see that it's not about banned members posting on the forum, it's about banned members visiting the forum. The question was asked and an explanation was given as to why the visit shows up in their profile. This is not a new thread, the original question was asked and answered back in January. It was only recently brought back to the top by an OT post.
