I was watching a youtube video of a Bandai R2-D2 build (a new video added a week ago) and this was the 2nd R2 build by this fellow.
On his current build he filled in dome gap and did a better metallic paint app.
What caught my attention was that he said he realized that the decals that give you an option to choose between different colors (circles on front/back of dome and small "led" rectangle on dome) weren't actually options but rather a "base" decal then a "coat" decal.
For example, on R2's "eye" he used the black circle as a base then applied red circle on top. (I think black, going from memory here).
Point is, it did seem to look better, especially with the small rectangles - seemed to add much more color and "pop".
One side note, he used the stickers instead of decals and applied a light layer of X-19 Smoke (clear) paint to them.
Point is, has anyone ever tried "layering" decals before?
His R2 looked quite nice and he did have sound logic for going sticker route, he sealed them with clearcoat before weathering, which is going to be part 2 of his video.
Edit: video was posted by Bashing Kits if anyone wants to check it out. He had some other builds that were quite nice.
