Stynylrez gray primer just happens to have that perfect (to me anyway) bluish tinge for the main hull so I left it at that. Top "city skyline" superstructure is Tamiya XF-24 dark gray; details underneath are XF-53 neutral gray and both have been lightly dry brushed with XF-66 light gray. Base got a shot of flat black.

Looking great! Dig that color scheme.

This was mine. I went for more of an onscreen color palette.

SSD1.jpgSSD2.jpgSSD3.jpgSSD4.jpg

Used same primer you did but with a few drops of blue acrylic added. Miniataire-Granite washed stone grey for the superstructure. Also did the engines and added a gloss aztec varnish for some hull panels. Would love this in a much larger scale, even if it was 1/5000. Not getting my hopes up though for such a thing.

Really love these little kits from Bandai. Got the Death Star Attack Run on sale from Bluefin for 20 bucks - so I'm going to play with that on a weekend in the near future.

My synapses short-circuit when even considering lighting these tiny kits. And yes, I have seen what some of our friends in Japan have done.

I do not possess the skills, talents or patience (not to mention the eyesight) to attempt it.

Good luck!

Right? I can't even imagine the patience required to modify the basic kit in order to accommodate the superstructure lighting (although I have a hint as to just how it was accomplished). Not to mention all the scribing on the hulls...

It hurts the brain and stings the mind to contemplate what it took to accomplish the above.

Kinda like looking at a picture of a razor blade cutting an eyeball.

I suspect that he recast the pieces in question in clear resin, then did the old "paint and scratch open the windows with a pinpoint" trick. The trench pieces look completely scratch-made though...

I suspect your suspicions are well spent. Bandai does not yet offer the SSD in clear plastic. The closest offering is their ROTJ set with X-Wing, Y-Wing and DS-II.

Still and all, it hurts to look at those pics with the understanding of what it took to scratch them holes and either cast or glue those tiny trench pieces on the clear resin.

Just thinking about lighting those mini-kits for me, is just a mind-exercise in pain.

Mostly due to my own agony in slavery lighting and working on the Zvezda lo these many years.

Could you post a link to that SSD build? I'd like to check it out some more

Have your Google or Yahoo Japanese translator at the ready...

Your both right, he self-casted the super structure parts in clear resin.
Did a great job of it to. I had a look at some of the other works on there. Some really cool things there. And people say I'm crazy

it's 20cm long. The only large SSD I know of is the Korbanth kit. There used to be a Knightwire and also a Ravenstar kit but they're both OOP now sadly
