Bandai release schedule

Yay! My USA Gundam order has shipped.

Same here, delighted!

I’m still glad I went with the LTD edition. Not so much because of the lighting kit, but for the clear parts. I’m definitely wanting to use them to add to the lighting if what I’m planning works out. It might not but it’s worth a try. I’ll almost certainly be picking up a standard edition too.

On a side note, looking at videos, the box for the ltd. edition is ridiculously huge.

Using the supplied kit just adding an external switch to it to cut the power. I don't have the kit yet (it's shipping. ) but when I do I will work out how to do it.

Ben

I’ll also be very keen to see how you manage it. So I can totally steal your idea that is.

For those interested, Bluefin is offering 50% off the AT-AT and Kylo Ren kits:

So--reading the comments here, now also wondering if I'll bother with the lighting (which is unfortunate bc I already paid for the Limited Edition). Although in theory it sounds cool 1) taking top off to turn on or replace batteries is a pain 2) I'm too lazy/unskilled to mod the electric setup 3) TBH, once the SD is sitting on my shelf, not sure how often I'd turn it on anyway (ie, I don't think it will be a big thrill for the wife and kids).

Hm.

Of course that is another thing to consider. I had spent countless hours lighting a multi-deck aircraft carrier with fibers for runway lights, and flickering LEDs for engines etc..., but I took a few pictures with the lights on, and haven't turned them on since then. Same with the other models I lit. I snapped some pics of them lit up, but rarely if ever turn them on. Bandai's lighting kit is convenient as far as installing and getting up and running, and if you are ever only going to turn it on once in while it's probably not worth it, especially if you already have it

So are there any definitive good quality assembly/paint video series out there for the Bandai model yet ?

What are you guys watching/following ? It's more painting tips I'm after.

This is the only build video currently online that gets to the painting, and this one covers only the priming and the base coat. I think he said he was using a Vallejo Ivory for the base color.

Today I did a quick test and can say lighting is an easy and cheap thing to do. Just 3mm cabled LED's are needed. They fit perfectly and in minutes there is light :)

Looks Awesome. I love the warm color of the LEDs you used. I have some "warm" LEDs that have a greenish tinge but yours nail the old light bulb look. Can you share where you got them?

>I don't know if it is as prominent to the naked eyes, but your pictures indicate the need for light blocking paint.

I agree on that :)

China. 50 pieces round about $7 like here: 50pcs Warm White 3mm 12V Pre-Wired Ultrabright Waterclear LED light lamps Bulb @ 6939113837958 | eBay

>Are the leds just shining through the holes or are you diffusing them?

I did not change or add anything it's all like Bandai designed it.

>Will you be adding an external switch for the power?

I don't know yet, it was just a quick test if the original Bandai Lighting kit is really needed. I would say no ;-)

cheers

I got mine last week (standard edition) I will be lighting mine up. I dont feel the light kit is worth it and I can have more control over where I put my led's, and what color as well. maybe it's just me? but I dont really see why they have holes pre-drilled on the limited edition and clear parts? when the standard edition has holes pre-drilled as well? whats the advantage?
anyway thought I would share a few ways to light it up without having to tear this sucker apartand might take a little planning but the end result will be much easier.

this is a great way to simplify your lighting power problems. I have used it on a few kits. and with the dimmer you can tone the FO down to not be so bright and give the light a softer tone for a better vision of scale. as small as this kit is a softer light light would be ideal.

and this touch sensor is a breeze to use and works great! if you think outside the box you can achieve anything. I like to tinker with lighting and ways to make it easier. and even for the "lazy/unskilled" as you mentioned it's breeze to install. but at this scale it might be a challenge to place the sensor itself.

hope this helps. I can't tell you or anyone how detailed this kit is "simply outstanding" has to be seen in hand! pics/video do no justice.

Yup. Using that on my Zvezda build. Would love to use it on the Limited Lit Kit from Bandai - but alas - no clue as to how to modify the light kit to use that. Ultimately - for those that want to light the kit with their own lighting system - there really is no reason to get the limited edition.

It annoys me that the panel lines are so pronounced.
Yeah, that bugged me a little from the time the pre-production model was being shown off. As I understand it, there are no physical panel lines on Avenger, its all mechanical pencil. While I understand they wanted to represent that somehow, taking lines that, for scale, have no actual depth on the studio model and making well-defined engraved lines on a model way, waaaaaaaay smaller doesn't seem ideal. Other than just leaving it to the builder to pencil, or stencil on a bazillion lines with crazy-fine lead, I'm not sure what the option would be however.

Regarding lighting, has anyone tried the 'stick a little chunk of fiber in each hole, and paint the end with clear red/yellow/whatever' technique yet? Also thinking about maybe painting the diffuser around the hangar bay yellow to warm it up a bit - is that stupid/useless?

I'm going to put this here, since I know everyone reading this will have a passing familiarity (at least) with the Bandai kits. Does anyone know if any of the figure kits have macrobinoculars? Or, failing that, if any of the Hasbro Black Series 6" action figures do? I need a pair.

Bandai Battle Droid has its version, and Clone Trooper has helmet-based macros.

Black Series Luke with landspeeder, Clone Commander Gree, and Darth Maul have their character specific macrobinoculars. Not sure of others... Which version did you need?

No, not yet. But that is what I think I am going to do for EACH hole - and just paint the inside strand chunk red for color. I've already pre-shaded the kit on sprue and will be priming it soon. Had to order some Reducer and thinner for the white Stynlrez primer I plan to use so it is not so opaque and can shoot through my airbrush without the clogging I am expecting using a .2mm needle.

Only one I know of is the Hasbro Black series Luke Skywalker and Landspeeder pack.

Thanks for the info. Looking like the way to go when I eventually pick one up.
