Bandai release schedule

I for one think Ep. I is the best Star Wars movie, not because of the best plot, but because of the best execution..

Episode I had studio scale models for all its ships. If they weren't used on screen, they were used as photo reference for the digital models (I'm thinking specifically of the pod racers). It's not like it's hard to reference this information. And I'll say this after attending the marathon last week and seeing all the films back to back projected huge on a crystal clear screen: I like the PT even more. The much maligned acting in the PT is better than people dismiss (especially when you can see subtle gestures and reactions) and the acting in the OT isn't as great as many want to remember. Whether it's Luke whining in ANH or Han acting like a pouting teen on Endor, the acting in many ways just as hammy as the PT. And I love TPM even more after seeing TFA. TPM at least had bold, original ideas and took chances. TFA (and I WAS entertained by the film) was soooooo safe and derivative. A disappointing lack of originality.

I fully agree with everything you said. I also would have hoped the same amount of fresh ideas for TFA as had TPM.

TPM?

I think Thorst & Astroboy have hit upon the "perceived" lack of Prequels interest. The mash of box scale, quality ranging from toy-like to just nearly okay, all under a strategy by Revell to pretend that the entire market consisted of youngsters instead of any more mature modelers (hmm, this sounds familiar!) Many modelers tend to build collections and like the ability to have same-scale replicas to realize physical comparison between items. If not so, why the popularity of the "standard" scales? [Many days I wonder why I stuck with 1/48 scale; gosh I could have even had a Saturn V!]

Given that Revell has been essentially the only Prequel source (well, pardon, yes AMT did a fair number of decent stuff but again, the scales were a bit variable though at least from the standard selection!), I must assume any issues with sales among "serious" modelers is due more to their marketing strategy (snap-tite, pre-painted & overpriced) and not the subject matter. My own personal search for suitable kits has even lead me to obtaining Hallmark Christmas ornaments (the 'bubble' Jedi Starfighter is pretty much spot on for 1/48...btw.) That said, I was happy to have the Naboo fighter and Droid 'Vulture' fighters as well as the Droid Tank, all in 1/48 scale. Perhaps the worldwide exposure to the AMT Stars Wars I-III Episode vehicles has been much less than the Revell offerings? Frankly, from a modeler's viewpoint, the AMT kits were superior to any of the Revell releases & at least offered some building challenge.

Perhaps it is 'sci-fi' in general that gets a short-shrift?

Just to share, here are some of my odd-ball findings of 1/48 scale (or nearly so) items:
Micro Machines Action Fleet 1) Landspeeder & 2) Escape Pod
Hallmark Jedi Starfighter (ETA-2 Actis Class - not Sprite)
Hasbro
Star Wars Mini Transformers General Grievous to Grievous Starfighter
Hasbro Tydirium Shuttle (the big one!)

[Back OT] I've often wondered how an 'accessories' kit would do. Imagine that Bandai were to release a model kit with various 'supporting characters' that would go with their other releases, such as the Rebel DF.9 blaster emplacements, Ton-tons, Rebel troops, medical droids, hangar mules, etc. from the Hoth battle (or even a series of figure sets from both sides with primary character figures mixed in for good measure..) How about an AT-AT 'destroyed foot' as a base for the Snowspeeder? Or some speeder bikes & Ewoks to go with the AT-ST?
What of a box containing multiple different speeder types from across the Star Wars trilogies?
Bandai knows all about such things, way back to their 1/48 scale armor series. What of a constant scale Pod Racer collection?

Well, you get the idea...

TPM = The Phantom Menace (Ep. I)

I agree with you. I have some of the AMT Ep. I kits, but I won't build them too soon. They look great, but I payed much too much for them. I am still missing the Naboo Starfighter and the Droid fighters (which I built both as a kid), but I won't pay the prices on eBay...

Bandai, you are our only hope...

Wow. I like the new wing design. The framework is now all one piece instead of seperate bars. The new mounting point for the base is cool too!

I think fine molds did that too. It was perfect.

One of the reasons that I haven't done my tie advanced is that the wings are all one piece and masking them isn't really great. Maybe I should sell it.

Just color match the blueish kit plastic to paint just the black strip on the wing top. Build the kit and give it a nice wash to dirty it up a bit.

Anyone have any trusted, non gouge-y sources for getting the bandai kits into North America/Canada? I'd still like to get a falcon, but I'd kinda like to build the two droids for my kid.

I've ordered the X-Wing, AT-ST, Y-Wing, TIE fighter, snowspeeder and Falcon from random companies on Amazon. Everything arrived quickly and I didn't pay much more than 'retail'.

Didn't have any problems. Just check their feedback.

I'm in the US, by the way.

Hi guys,
I hope this is not too off-topic. I am deciding which paint scheme to go on T-70 X-Wing, but there are any resources available (or I am too lame in googling). Are there any schematics of paint scheme and also info what kind of astromech does Ello Asty have?

[SPOILER -------SPOILER]
In Bandai kit, there is BB-8 (Poe's astromech) and the X-Wing has blue stripes, so it represents X-Wing from the very beginning of the TFA, in which X-Wing has been destroyed. Later in the movie, Poe was flying in his black-orange X-Wing. I will definetely buy Poe's X-Wing when it is released but right now I would like to build different X-Wing. So, do you have any suggestions?

@Spendlik : The Bandai 1:72 (Original Trilogy) X-Wing comes with two astromech droids (one R2 and one R5 unit). Maybe they fit in the droid slot of the (TFA) X-Wing. The Bandai Y-Wing has one droid body and two droid heads (one R2 and one R5). I hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the answer. I got both models (T-65 X-Wing and Y-wing), my question was rather about some resources about paint scheme and astromech.
