Bandai release schedule

It is a shame that no one at Bandai looked at their 1/6 Stormtrooper design, before the molds were made, and realized, the guy looks anorexic. Seriously, the guy needs to eat a sammich or 3!

I noticed that the prices on ebay and Amazon Germany and eBay are going up for the Bandai kits the last few months, with lots of them not available anymore. Is this only for Europe or Germany, or do you have the same problem in Asia or US?

Any news regarding Revell's plans for distribution in Europe? They released only like 5 different models, and I don't find any update since the Millennium Falcon came out. Such a shame that these models are so hard to come by here.

Prices are definitely going up

You can use camelcamelcamel.com to see the price history for products

The 1/72 X-Wing was pretty steady between $18 to $25 for quite a long time, but has now jumped to $70 since it is no longer in stock at most sellers and has moved into the private and 3rd party seller territory.

Places like Amazon, BigBadToyStore, GundamUsa and many others are still selling kits at MSRP or below, but they are also running out of stock on many kits.

A combination of panic buying as people seem to think this is Bandai's last hurrah and 3rd party sellers no longer offering them at MSRP but doubling or tripling the price

The same thing happens with Revell kits once they go out of stock and Fine Molds when they lost the license.

The problem is we do not have any confirmation about the state of the Bandai license in conjunction with the pandemic slowing production, so it is is just adding fuel to the flames

I really hope we don't get stuck buying $90 X-wings and higher from eBay sellers

The weird thing is, the only thing they are doing runs of this month are some of the figures.

Japanese government restricts international shipping due to Corona, atm. That's why prices are going up, while stocks are decreasing.
Most japanese vendors on ebay have closed their shops due to this, weeks ago.

So, please don't start the "Bandai's end is nigh" doom and gloom, again...

So, in going down the rabbit holes of the internet looking for license info I stumbled upon this announcement from Revell back in 2015 when people were accusing Revell of causing Bandai to loos the ability to sell outside Japan

Statement Revell and Bandai

We are massively confronted with the accusation that Revell invited Disney as licensor of the Star Wars license to prohibit Bandai selling Star Wars licensed products outside of Japan. This claim is plain wrong because we haven’t and won’t at no time take influence to the business matters of other manufacturers!

The truth is rather that each licensee, whether Revell or Bandai, is only be entitled to sell its licensed products under its own license contract and the countries agreed upon. These license contracts are concluded solely between the licensor Disney and the various licensees. We as Revell GmbH therefore aren’t allowed to sell our Star Wars products in Japan. On the other hand it is not possible for Bandai to sell its Star Wars products in the US and Europe, if these regions are not part of the contract.

Apart from that, we are convinced that a license like Star Wars lives from the wide variety of products and thus inspires young and old. Therefore we see the model kits of the company Bandai not as competition but as a supplement on the market for Star Wars model kits.

So, in going down the rabbit holes of the internet looking for license info I stumbled upon this announcement from Revell back in 2015 when people were accusing Revell of causing Bandai to loos the ability to sell outside Japan.

I remember that announcement and I was one of many who coughed "bull----" on their claim. It wasn't just people accusing Revell, Revell was sending out cease and desist orders to places like Hobby Link Japan demanding they stop selling Bandai Star Wars kits to the U.S. -- which HLJ and others stopped doing. The outcry convinced Revell to back off, allowing places like BlueFin to step in and for restrictions to loosen. I'm sure distributors like CultTVMan could fill in specifics, but I remember scrambling to find a guy living in Japan at the time who was willing to ship kits to me in the event Revell's legal blockade succeeded. Contrary to Revell's damage control PR response, they were absolutely trying to squeeze Bandai out of the U.S. market. We're lucky they didn't fully succeed -- yet. As with many things, the pandemic is upending trade and shipping, rewriting the rules for how products are going to move overseas. It's not farfetched to imagine a company like Revell using the pandemic as an excuse to jockey for better position in their markets. Until (and if) this is all over, it's mostly a moot point. We'll just have to see how it all shakes out.

And for the record: I am extremely greatful for all the options Bandai has offered us for Star Wars kits. I'd like to see them doing more models, mostly more Prequel stuff, and in 1/48 scale, but this is all whining on a high level. If they'd decide to just run the existing kits for the time being, I would be fine, because the options they offer with their models are much better than what was there before, and the quality is fantastic.

I hope that their developers know how much their work is appreciated.

In the UK,....it’s still cheaper to purchase Bandai kits from sellers in Japan through EBay or Amazon than to buy the Euro Bandai/Revell re-boxed kits....Revell is just too damn expensive

Now that is crazy.

One good thought: That partnership might just keep the kits from going out of print longer.

In Germany some kits were on sale for a few weeks, so you could get the Revell offerings at least for the same price as direct imports from Japan. Something like 33% off. Helped me to build up a small reserve...

...although its harder to find the Japanese models now....so the Revell re-box might soon be the only choice

I'd be fine with that as well. There are still a number of kits I do not have yet, especially the figure kits
and there are also a few kits I need more copies of like the X-Wing and another Tie

Time to catch-up would be nice

And considering how they love to recycle molds when possible, how about a Madalorian Biker Scout with the Child

I regret not having bought a 3rd snowspeeder and AT-ST when they were on sale.

The question is: how many X-Wings, TIEs and AT-ATs are enough?
