Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver - CURSED EARTH VERSION FINISHED !

Too cool!

I apologize for continually piggy-backing on your posts with reminders of my own projects, but I did a Benjamin Martin Tomahawk from The Patriot, and did one side of the blade clean as a whistle, and the other side all bloodied up after his rampage against the British patrol.

And a real-world similarity...

A few years back I was out at the location where Clint Eastwood built the set for High Plains Drifter. There were still scraps of wood remaining from the set, though it has been 38 years. I stepped over a piece of wood with some black charring on it. The breeze blew the charred portion like tissue, and on the underside of the char was perfectly preserved blood red paint, used in the film!

As if any apology is needed :lol. Rather, post a link to your build ! It's so nice to see other projects too.

I'll say it again, very nice, if Two-Face would have had a lawgiver, this would have been it. Job well done.

Add yet another wow!!..incredible fix. How did you go about fixing the detail in the eagle engraving? I have tried to fix a kit with some of those vents that are like the sloping ones at the foregrip?..the part that holds the binoc lens. And I made a real hash of it. So any more tips would be great.

Thanks guys :)

I made the holes for the barrel & the 'binocular holder' using a heavy duty drill with multiple speed settings. Used the very slow setting, with a spade bit, a 25mm, seen under the drill. Had a few accidental chippings, but that was fixed in the filling stage. No other way to tackle this except by being like a (semi-tame) bull in a china shop. The sloping shape was then done by simply sanding, going down from 80 sandpaper to 2000 for the finish.

The eagle (and several other bits), was done using carving tools, in this case, just gently scratching the lines with the second tool from the left seen in the pic.

For other parts (the tip of the sight for instance) I used a smaller hobby drill & various attachments.

Wow Alan....

I just read this thread for the first time... Start to finish and man, you really went to town on this bad boy. I've known you've got talent for a while, but with this job, you just proved it to everyone else.

BRAVO buddy.

Re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver - CURSED EARTH VERSION FINISHED !

that's one hell of a restoration if I ever saw one, props to you, no pun intended

Re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver - CURSED EARTH VERSION FINISHED !

Mold it.. Its yours now. Fantastic work.

Re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver - CURSED EARTH VERSION FINISHED !

Cheers guys.

Mold it ???? Noooooooooo :cry It wouldn't be unique then. It's grown on me like a limpet, in fact, keeping it as my one & only LG replica :)

It may not be precisely screen accurate ( amongst others :lol), but it's my baby now :)

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

I just now saw this project and I actually got a Lawgiver that had the same issues and might be the same company making it. Thanks to you i've got some ideas on how to improve it a bit other than sanding every warped and malformed part flat on the belt sander.

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Must be the same.

.... can't believe that 2 of these exist, that come from different sources :lol

Seriously though - just keep in mind that the paint thinner part was initially an accident ! If I hadn't quickly thrown it into a sink full of water, it probably would have pulled a wicked-witch-of-the-west job on me after a few more minutes :lol

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

I am amazed, I am impressed, I am in AWE! That has to be one of the most remarkable turn-arounds I have ever seen! Much like you, I hate to be beaten by things like this, and your perseverance certainly paid off....in spades. Great work.

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Well, it looks great now. So does your ST, by the way. Wow.

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

I would have sent the original unit back for a refund but my hats off to you for resurecting a beauty of a Lawgiver from that turd of a prop mould :D

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Dude this refinishing was truly inspiring! Good show chap!

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Nice work - brilliant rescue job :) Always fancied one of these

re: Bad builds & worse fixes - Judge Dredd Lawgiver

Actually your build has made me ponder upon doing a restoration on a Resin cast Blade Mac 11 I have had for 10 years. Its need of restoration largely because its in the same state I got it in. I have kept it wrapped up in a box.

Could not get rid of it, looking at it now. I think the times right to make plans for a ressurection/restore. I have to do a lot of research though.
