Back to the Future: The Musical

This could go really wrong really fast, but I trust that Zemeckis knows what he's doing.

Definitely a bold idea, so he gets points for that.

"The production will include illusions, skateboarding and many other surprises that will capture the spirit of the film but freshly interpret it for a new audience"
Sounds like they'll be changing stuff, which fans usually hate. As long as it's done right, I say go for it. Otherwise it would be like watching the movie... I can do that at home.

As long as it's better than the Spiderman musical, I'm all for it. There's some great pyrotechnic opportunities and the movie has a lot of music moments in it--which will probably smooth the transition from film to stage.

Some crazy cool effects effect can be achieved with good old smoke and mirrors and lighting. I went to a few Musicals at the Pantages Theater and was really impressed at what they can do nowadays, but BTTF as a Musical?

They always do to fit what they are able to do on stage (be it effects or content that they're allowed to show). For example, Wicked. The book is rather dark in tone and is more adult-oriented in comparison to to the source material it was borrowing from. For the musical, they actually made it more lighthearted and even changed the ending of the story. I personally prefer the book because of its darkness and maturity, showing a story of a misunderstood woman who goes into a downward spiral. However, many people love the music and it's been quite successful because of how it is.
