Babylon 5 PPG, all metal, Racprops version...

Hey guys,

I've been working on this on and off for a couple of weeks now and thought y'all might like to see it. Rich was kind enough to accommodate me with a PPG in "kit form". The gun is made of pewter, so it's nice and heavy. The downside with this kind of metal (as I learned when doing my Firefly Jubel Early pistols) is that thicker parts are extremely hard to cast and often require a lot of cleanup. For that reason (since I was a bit lazy) I chose to make it look slightly used/weathered- a workin' man's PPG. Grips are resin-rubber casts of the correct Pachmyr grips. (I might replace them down the line with the real thing... we'll see.)

The PPG has lights, (laser sight and trigger) but no sound. I wanted to mod the battery-change process (Rich puts the batteries behind the barrel but I wanted mine in the handle) and I also wanted a magnet to hold the power cell in place. So, I swapped out the N-type battery holder for two 3v Lithium cells. I do have the sound board for it but I couldn't get it running properly (despite enough voltage) and the lithium batteries might not have enough juice for prolonged sound use, so I settled for the lights. Might give it another try in the future though. Another thing I still have to do is replace the screw holding the grips for something nicer. You can't really see it in the photo's, but the inside of the muzzle is covered/filled with transparent red plastic- it's not "open" so the led is hidden.

Anyway... a couple of snapshots (sorry for the half-crappy photography, which the almighty Wackychimp is graciously hosting):

I've been wanting a metal version of the PPG for a while this one looks really cool, looks like I might have to contact racprops!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I've been wanting a metal version of the PPG for a while...

You know... lately I've been becoming more and more picky about these things. As far as replica blasters and such goes, metal really is the way to go even if they cost a LOT more and are much harder to get. Through I am actually amazed that we are able to get so many cool things in metal as we are. I mean.. look at the Firefly pistols. A couple of years ago I never dreamed I would ever have the chance to own even one in metal and now I've got several... from different characters even. Now Sideshow is coming out with the metal Samaritan... simply wonderful.

Totally agree gone for the all metal route as well since I got the MR han blaster & Racprops Blade Runner Metal version(very cool) and the soon to be metal Samaritan, makes them feel like your holding the real thing :)

ARG!:( I've wanted a PPG since I first saw the show, back when it was first on, and after putting it off, I finally gave up hope of getting a metal one, and order a resin one last week, and NOW there's a metal one. :lol

It really does look great.:) They really are a great prop. So small, but so detailed, and handy looking.

Well things have changed so I am thinking of offering these as kits to everyone.

They need TLC and hard work.

Let me know, email me if you want one.
