Hey!
I'm new to this forum, too.
AND I need to make some life sized baby props.
The difference is that I live out in the country and can do fiberglass if i want to.
But I don't know how.
I'm fairly new to the whole sculpting/molding/casting process. Up until now, I've been one dimensional: I use WED clay for the sculpt, Ultracal for the mold, and latex for the cast (either on its own for masks, or filled with soft or rigid foam for props).
As I move on to bigger projects, like these life sized babies, the Ultracal is going to become unwieldy. I'm looking for a new medium for the mold, and I think that it might need to be fiberglass.
Is that the correct direction?
Any other suggestions?
Obviously, since I don't even know what medium I should use, I don't know anything about the process of using it. Can someone point me toward a really good tutorial for beginners on using ..... whatever medium..... is the logical progression following Ultracal?
Where to get materials...what tools do I need...hints on not mucking up my first attempt...etc.
All opinions are welcome.
