Baby Groot modeled in Sculpey

Here is my new task in getting ready for Chicago C2E2 for 2015. I am getting married in just a few weeks, so wanted to do something that was not very time consuming, but fun to do, that being said, I have never worked with Sculpey before, but love being artistic so glad to have something to keep my hands busy. My fiance and I are doing cosplaying as StarLord and Gamora for C2E2 and I won't be starting on my costume until October, so this is my task to go along with the fun.

I started out with light brown Sculpey clay and 12 gauge floral wire. I also purchases a cheap terra cotta pot, which I will paint later to match the movie version more. Hope you guys like the progress so far, and of course I'm open for suggestions. Not going to make him move, but if we end up attending the San Diego Comic Con next year, I will be upgrading him to move! So here is my baby groot....so far.

That's so cute! You're doing an awesome job. You have to post pictures when you're done with it! I may have to make one myself... :)

I love this too. Its great youre showing photos of your progress as i want to do this but havent sculpted before. I have now ordered some sculpey! Thank you.

Sorry have't posted in a while,
Purchased some more Sculpey, as it is taking more than I anticipated, on to packages 3 now. I had to dismantle the hair/twigs, as it fell off after a day of sitting, even though I had it covered in an almost airtight seal. I think my apartment may be too humid to keep things sticking correctly. Darn Chicago and its humid weather lately. Will post updated pics on Saturday of the progress before I bake it and begin painting the pot and Baby Groot himself! It is turning out way better than I expected!

Been a long time since I posted, but my Gamora costume is finally done and I was able to work on my Groot sculpture again!

Here are some images of him before I baked him. I did a bit more body work, added new hair, the old stuff fell off before I could bake it. :( I stuck him in a terra cotta pot and stuck him in the oven to bake.

I plan on painting him and adding green details to given him depth and dimension. I will post again with progress. C2E2 is in just a few weeks and I plan on bringing him along!

He is done! Baby Groot is finished. He does not dance, but he looks pretty awesome! I need to just add some dirt and rocks to his pot, but I am soooo satisfied with how he turned out.
Hope you all enjoy! He is completely made from wire, sculpey clay and painted using acrylics in two shades of brown and a black.

Here he is without his black eyes and the pot. This is after I painted him using greens, and browns.

And here he is completed with his eyes and the pot!
Can not wait to show him off in less than two weeks at Chicago C2E2!

Here he is with his pot filled and ready to be my companion at C2E2 this weekend!

Hope you all like him and that this has inspired you to sculpt your own Groot!
