Baby Groot - [Done] [pic heavy]

After watching GoTG, just like evereyone else i wanted a baby groot. So i started to sculpt at the time when i started the reference wasn't available so i took a shot in the dark which i changed at a later time..you can see the changes below.

Current Status : Finished

i am using super sculpey original, i am not very good at sculpting but i gave it my best...here..

1st approach - the blind approach no reference

I abandoned the above , after looking at some photos and decided to start over.


Started with a chunkier face

Added bulk for hair/branches

Next i attched the head to the body.
here is where i dropped the ball and forgot to take pictures of the main body at different stages

Thanks mate. No sir there's none of the original, the photos of the babe groot are really not good quality so we don't know what he has or not!

Next i cooked the - figure in a regular toaster oven - I wish i had added some foil supports but that skipped my mind and in the end some of the hair detail fell off.
So i sanded it a little to shape and fix the broken hair detail.

Primer goes on .

two shades of brown and some green to test - the moss look

I let this sit for overnight for it to completely dry.
added two shades of black to bring some depth.
added moss - i added slightly more than required -because this stuff tends to fall

Next - Painted the eyes

I hunted store after store for accurate pot and found one at hobby lobby but it turned out to be a little small, so i will be searching more store to see if anything close to that one is available in a bigger size.

(as you can see - this little fella is too big for this pot)

while hunting for a pot - i was going crazy - because the size and shape is not common. I had picked up a vase that was slightly bigger, but i returned it and gave the air conditioning and heating aisle a visit. In there i got lucky! Found something called air intake system - i junked all the little things but kept the pot looking deal.

And fits this little fella perfect
...

Next i added some river-rocks and moss to the base to add some character

All Done .
