AVP Armor Templates By VinMan

Yes, very nice! I was trying to decide between that and a more plate-armour type of approach where I'd mount them onto a strap, rather than to each other. It would probably increase the play a bit, but probably not as much as I'd like. But that'a basically what I was thinking. I like the plate approach, rather than the vented parts, because it seems more scale-like. But we will see where I go.

What did you use to achieve the nice curve, bizenboat? Did you cut them from PVC, or heat them and form them over something? The uniformity is nice.

Thanks alot it really didn't take too long to do either. I just did what Vinman suggested, I heated up the first one using a heat gun and got it to where I liked the curvature to it then used it to bend the other ones on, they aren't really as uniform as they appear either the rivets hold them together really well. Oh and i cut them out of a sheet of sintra, so they started out flat. I should have update by monday for complete chest armor w/shoulders and bicep armor.

Sweet. I'm starting with this stuff (the "easy" stuff, as my head puts it!), then decide if I can pull off the breast/back plates. I really want to, it's just that getting the curves around the sides and over the shoulders makes me nervous! I don't know if I'll be able to get those just right...

I'm going a little more gothic with mine (which I don't see as totally out of character, since Yautja armour is very gothic to start with), less angles and geometry, more curves and points. Sort of a ringwraith armour influence. Not sure if it will come out as I expect, but that's the great thing about experimentation!

Now if I can just pull off that darn chestpiece. That, and at least one gauntlet. lol

Hey Bizen, nice work the rivets work well.

Did you make any card spacers between the rivets before closing ?? i.e like a little washer, I find card can be removed easily and creates just enough play in the rivet to move nicely.

Just a thought..

I managed to source some decent priced Sintra/foamex today 2 8ft x 4ft (one 3mm & one 5mm) both for £80/$100

I found a very friendly sign supplier who gave me some free offcuts.

I like the 3mm for detail work (and I think it could do some nice historical pieces) the 5mm looks nice and chunky thou for the AVP stuff.

Just wondered does anyone know what to prime this stuff with ???

thanks man, you know I didn't think about that but now that you mention it great idea. I've only riveted the one shoulder (which i'm obviously not gonna redo cause i'd basically have to destroy it) but i'll try that for my next ones, LMK how it goes. And as for priming it, i've just been using black spray paint, works great!

are you guys just printing out the templates or do you have to enlarge them ?? i found i need to to increase the size to 133% to achieve the measurements on the templates. i would like to know what size everyone is using, i know itll depend on your frame and preference but still would like to see variations.. thanks guys.

ps. thanks for the templates vin!!!

You know, bizen, you don't need to destroy them to remove the rivets. Back in my SCA days, I did this all the time. Just use a drill with a bit the same size as the rivet, and drill through the one side. You don't have to go all the way through, just enough to remove the flat part on one side, and the rivets just fall right out. Just a heads-up, in case you DO need to change anything, so you don't feel like you need to start over.

Lrplad, look around a bit more. I just picked up a 4 x 8 3mm sheet from a local guy for $30. And he cut it into quarters, to make it easier to transport...

yos, I don't know about the chest piece (which has been stated runs small), but everything else I'm doing now (shoulders, biceps, thighs, etc) seems to be sized just right for me, and I'm not small... Maybe your printer is not printing them at actual size?

These templates are off the hook!!! Any recommendations on how to mount the shoulder/arm guards onto a body? You use certain straps or anything?

I'd still love to know what people are using for filler in places where there are holes. Some sort of clay or putty? Anyone?

I'm currently working on my 300 Spartan helmet, made out of a recycled construction hard hat and pieces from a 5 gal. paint bucket I pulled out of a constuction site dumpster (I actually was able to grab 15 buckets and have them all cut up and cleaned, ready for all kinds of armor). I spent yesterday on a recon mission to various stores to try and find odd products that I may be able to use in this and future builds. I came across J-B STIK at Advanced Discount Autoparts in the Adhesives aisle, for $6. It looks like it's the ticket. Good luck!

Yea man i am standing on ur shoulders too i am going to have a vinMan armor set lol thanks and yea like u have not done enough how did u atatch the bells and the progresstion of the groin armor i gor a few ideas but this firckin sinca is not cheap were i live thanks man

Just started my shoulder plates and Sentra is the best. $35 Canadian for a 4x8 sheet at a sign shop. I just boiled cut out templates for 30 seconds and formed them over a 1 quart paint can for a uniform curve. And cudos to VINMAN and all the informative member here, hope to contribute as I go along.

Many thanks to you vinmanmac for your willingness to share your templates. I'll be using them as a base design & change it to my needs. I'm like to push original ideas, whenever I can.

I figure it might be a bit late to be a Predator for this Halloween but I'll be dressed as some sort of warrior, & I might as well make a few pieces of armor that will somehow turn into Predator armor when I'm done with it.

I will be trying a few different things to see which would give me the effect that I want.

Dude! You're like the AVP *****!!!! This stuff is gold! Pure, 24 karot, GOLD!!!!!!! Keep up the good work and plzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ make some shin-armor templates!

A combo of a few things.

1) I have a few sheets of sintra plastic that when boiled or heated in an oven you can shape really nicely.
2) 5 gallon plastic buckets
3) large diameter PVC pipe

It may be a while before I get to working on them but I am trying to get the templates built so I can knock them out one at a time.

here is another

Front Groin Flap

Here is the next one

But Flap
Is the top all leather or sintra wrapped in leather or just painted to look like leather

Here are templates for

the Lid to the Computer Bomb Gauntlet
and the Instrument Panel

Hey, I'm thinking of a countdown timer tattoo like I saw another member has here. Are these digital numbers movie accurate? Which film? Anybody's input would be appreciated, or if anyone has different images to share. I've tried searching here and google, but I don't think I'm using the right words!
