Avengers: Doomsday

One half of the Avengers writing duo has apparently been confirmed.

They trash it because they have zero influence and input. They wouldn’t do anything any better because they never tried to even get into the creative fields they gobble up like the pigs at the trough they are. Their only outlet is online discourse where they rage and mewl like the bairns they are. At least they’ll never have anything to do with this stuff creatively.

Well duh!!!! (y) :p

That is why we are here.

Okay,, I need to go look up what a bairns is.

I think is was a fair question given the diversity in Europe. I think asking it better would have helped. Asking which European accent would work.

It is funny things like this. I had no idea people south of the U.S. hate it when we refer to the USA as America as the entirety of both continents is called the Americas. Live and learn.

BTW this is a really stupid idea and should never have been done. Come up with something new.

DVW was making fun of the absurdity of the multiverse. Pointing out it is kind of silly. The guy talks to the camera.

Honestly coming out of the theater Thursday I thought they were saying we had fun with it, we poked fun at it, and now we are done with it. I guess not.

For me it ends with Endgame.

WVD is a great end for the messy X men movies.

I am calling it. Time of death 7/27/2024 at whatever time RDJ came on stage.
Interesting, as someone living in the south, i've not run across that at all. Maybe it's bit more localized, who knows..

While I was looking forward to a new actor playing Doom, I can't say I totally disapprove of Downey being cast. It could be interesting.

As far as the debate on re-casting a popular actor from a popular franchise, I think Marvel/Disney is just realizing that the success of the MCU has been a combination of specific actors combined with popular characters. Iron Man succeeded directly because of Downey, and it was a character that a lot of people were excited to finally see onscreen. Captain America is still Chris Evans for a lot of people, so it remains to be seen whether Anthony Mackie can carry the franchise himself (one could argue that The Falcon & Winter Soldier wasn't that successful, and Sebatian Stan was shouldering half the load, plus it was a streaming series vs a big budget theatrical release). I'm guessing the new Captain America film will still do well, but fall short of other Marvel films, including Deadpool & Wolverine (which had a huge opening already, but we'll see if it holds - maybe all the fans came out early to avoid spoilers like I did).

Looking at other franchises that keep trying to recapture the audiences they had, you can see how impotant the original actors are to the franchise success. The Aliens movies (with another installment coming soon) suffer (in my opinion) when not having the character of Ripley in them, and Sigorney Weaver is Ripley. But even changing the character & story, like they did in Alien³, where she played a clone of Ripley, messed with the established character too much and didn't resonate with the audience.

The Terminator franchise similarly struggles without both Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. I enjoyed Terminator: Dark Fate, which reunited the two, but they still altered the characters in a way that wasn't totally satisfying for many fans. The first three films followed largely the same formula, but the third didn't have Hamilton come back as Sarah Connor. It also recast John Connor, and though I doubt keeping Edward Furlong would've been a big draw, it still recast a main character from the prior film. Terminator Salvation and Genisys also failed to recapture the audience, again without the leads - Salvation just having a digital Schwarzenegger cameo, and Genisys recasting Sarah and John Connor, and completely messing with the story and timeline (as I said with Weaver as Ripley, Hamilton is Sarah Connor). In fact, Genisys also spolied the reveal of John Connor in their trailers, which seemed like a mistake to me.

The Star Wars films arguably suffer from similar problems, especially the sequel trilogy and various other films and streaming series. Trying to recapture the "magic" of the original cast, characters and story of a franchise isn't easy.

So it remains to be seen if Downey is a big enough draw without also playing Tony Stark. History suggests it may not work as expected, but Disney is at least realizing that the actors are a big reason for the success of the MCU.

I also wanted to mention that Downey in the MCU becoming a villain could be seen as somethimg of a rehash of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, where Ultron was essentially Tony Stark, having programmed a lot of his own personality into the AI that became Ultron. Even though they cast James Spader as Ultron's voice, he was definitely cast for having a simlar voice and patter as RDJ.

South America, Central America, etc..

Anyway that is what my Colombian wife tells me.
That aspect i get. Maybe i misread it...i can see people in central and south america not liking the us being called america. However, it is pretty clear it is shorthand for united states of america. No one is going to call brazil, chile, or mexico america, for example. It is actually part of the name of this country. It isnt in the name of any other country.

How bout an accent like that Frenchmen: Jean-Luc Picard?
Apparently, Patrick Stewart tried to do a French accent for the role, but it sounded ridiculous so they scrapped it (obviously, the right choice).

There's apparently some in-world explanation about the Picards having moved to England early on or something, but I always thought his proper English accent would've made sense having more to do with how the globalization of languages and dialects just change over time. I assumed that English would've become the predominate language on Earth (indeed, it was, as it became known as "Standard" language, in the Star Trek universe, I believe), so it seemed natural that regional dialects would also be more generalized, with Europeans, especially the French (due to their proximity to England), speaking more "proper" and "British" English than people like Riker and Geordi speaking U.S. English. The explaination of "the Picards moved to England for awhile" seems unnecessary to me, like they felt they had to dumb down the explanation for the audience.

Sorry for the diversion from the real topic. And don't even get me started in Troi's accent (that was another can of worms).

The Irish Traveler community are said to be Romani descent, It would be a laugh if Doom had the accent of Brad Pitt's character in Snatch

Wait, Deadpool's not white? Next you'll be telling me that Black Tom Cassidy isn't African-American!

I don't see the issue. RDJr is an actor and Dr. Doom is scarred and wears a mask. And even if we se him pre-scarring it is possible to make an actor realistcally unrecognizable - just look at Colin Farrell as the Penguin. So why do people assume he'll look like himself/Stark?
Yes, just look at his multiple looks in The Sympathizer.
