Avatar 3D technology question

I know that the new Avatar movie has some kind of new 3D technoloy, but does anyone have any specifics as to exactly what the differences will be in contrast to the 3D tech we've currently seen?

That is some wild stuff. I saw a demo of that a few months back where the speaker had a small army of tanks and helicopters on the video screen. The tanks were toy-sized and moving around on a table, interacting with real-world objects, while the helicopter was flying around the room.

I can't seem to find the video, but it was pretty amazing.

From speaking to several people who specialise in 3D tech, it's nothing new.
Like so many other forms of technology, it's a variation on a theme with some small improvements.

I know enough about the basics of 3D (we use it at work) to follow the advancements and I don't think we'll see anything too amazing until the advancement of one particular piece of kit - The Mk1 Eyeball.

Home systems are getting better. A friend of mine explained the basics of what the Avatar 3D Blu-Ray will be like.
But unless they start interfacing with our brains directly or something other than our eyes, it's just about better versions of what we have.


I think it comes down to the fact that we have 2 eyes, so we need 2 cameras and that's the limiting part. Everything is about replicating our eye function.
