Aurra Sing blaster finished!

Hi all,
Well, I've really kept busy during my Holiday vacation. :) I've completed my first prop build of '07. This is Aurra Sing's blaster pistol. It's one of those designs that I've always thought was fantastic, and that means of course that reference for it is pretty scarce. :lol In fact, I based 90% of my build from the following pic.

I built my blaster from Sintra, sheet styrene, acrylic tube, an exhaust cone from a Saturn V model, and a couple of small screws and steel wire. Here's an overall shot of my build up.

I know it's not entirely accurate. The grips don't have that weird bulge toward the back. . . but I couldn't figure out how to make that without resorting to Sculpey or something. And a sculptor I ain't. :unsure
Most of the body of the blaster was made up of laminated sheets of Sintra in a couple different thicknesses. The thinner detail plates were done with .030" styrene.

For the right side of the blaster, I had to resort to using the tiny 1/6 scale pistol from my Hasbro Aurra Sing figure. :) It was simplified, but I had to put something there.

The grips were a challenge to make because I wanted them to be removable. It seemed from the reference pic that the backstrap of the pistol grip was visible, so I designed my grips to slide on and off from the front of the "frame." I sandwiched 5 layers of Sintra together, and carved them to shape with a sanding drum on my Dremel. My hobby table looked like it was covered with snow afterwards. :lol Next time I try something like this I'll go out on the balcony. I made a buttplate and glued it to the bottom of the grips, and now they're removable. :thumbsup

For the finish on the grips, the original had some very subtle webbing or veining. I tried several techniques but couldn't get it to look quite right. I settled for a "champagne" pearl kind of shade. If you notice in the pics, it changes color depending on the lighting. I think it looks pretty nice. :)

So anyway, it's an unusual prop from the prequels that had about a nanosecond of screen time. . . but I like it. The overall length is about 10 1/2", and the "fattest" section of the barrel is exactly 1".
I also wanted to build something that Odiwan72 doesn't have in his collection. :lol :lol Hi Markus.

Here's my album for more pics.

Thanks for looking.

Very cool. Unless I am mixing memories I think the person who made them for EP1 is/was a member here.

o.k. Eric, you got me :lol

Great blaster buddy and yes...äh...no, I don´t have it in my collection (yet :p). You´re catching up :)

I really like what guys can do with styrene, AWESOME.
I´m currently trying to scratchbuild a RC DC-17 out of styrene, based on a AEG MP5, but this stuff is giving me headaches.
I just can´t archieve this clean and look :cry

Now try your hands on Bossk´s blaster, I don´t have this either :D

Hi guys,
This was an interesting build. I just always thought this blaster was pretty bizarre looking, and wanted to see how I could do on a scratchbuild. :)

Hmm. . . now where did I put that crate full of Schermulys???
I know it's around here somewhere. :lol

Nice work. I want one :love

Whoever designed it put a bit of SW history in there. The front sight resembles the old poor reference photots showing Han's ANH and the Merr Sonn front sight, and the side detail resembles the V8 part on Boba Fett's ESB blaster.

Thanks guys. Nice to see one of my projects pop back up to the front page from time to time. :thumbsup

That's exactly what inspired me to try to build this blaster. I found the exact measurements of that part and scaled my drawings to fit it.
I think it may have come out a little on the small side, but with those long fingers that Aurra has, it's hard to tell from pics. :)
