Attack on the USS Grissom

I built this one a couple weeks ago and finished it just in time for a local IPMS contest. I'd had the 1:1000 two-piece kit since Christmas and hadn't really touched it apart from basic assembly of the subassemblies. However, inspiration struck after I caught a video on YouTube about a guy making a tank launching itself off a ledge as it fires its main gun, and the explosion effect for the weapon discharge inspired me!

The bits of debris in the explosion were from a failed attempt at etching brass using FeCL. It went too slowly and ended up leeching the zinc from the brass, leaving a brittle matrix of copper. But the disaster in etching ended up being perfect for making a lot of tiny, detailed bits of wreckage!

Hope you like it!
